A wooden staircase that connects the Cortile d’Onore to the Loggiato Ovest brings out the extraordinary proportions of the cloister of Ca’ Granda.

The functional concreteness and materic presence of wood are juxtaposed with the immateriality of the classical rules of architecture that attempt to define, through mathematical and geometric formulae, the universal concepts of harmony and beauty.

The magnificent courtyard, however, lacks an equally grand staircase. With Lo Scalone, produced for Ferragamo Parfums with construction by Moretti Costruzioni using salvaged wood to be recycled in upcoming works, Michele De Lucchi inserts an imposing structure suitable for the proportions of the place.

The staircase, which includes a balcony-stage and also functions as stands for seating, becomes a space of socializing and reflection. An open piazza: a symbolic place of Italian culture and lifestyle.

Precisely the lifestyle that talented young photographers have captured in the images for the international contest Scent of Life Talent Awards, promoted by Ferragamo Parfums for the launch of the new fragrance Uomo Salvatore Ferragamo; the ten finalist shots are on display in the Loggiato Ovest (seating by Riva 1920; lightboxes by Ecorime).
