[gallery ids="5467"]In the second cycle of art exhibitions in three different hidden places in Bergamo – the Luogo Pio Colleoni, the Cannoniera di San Giacomo and the former Hotel Commercio -
Contemporary Locus, curated by Paola Tognonwith the collaboration of Paola Vischettisets out to create connections between contemporary art and the city, opening up secret, forgotten or abandoned places for exhibitions. In this second phase the artists Anna Franceschini and Steve Piccolohave been invited to work inside the Cannoniera di San Giacomo, part of the historic fortifications of the city. They have created a situation in which the viewer discovers the dark cavernous spaces under the city walls with hesitant steps, through gradual perceptions: a vast, deep internal structure made with stones and concrete blocks. The place is a mysterious, secret cave, hard to decipher and perceive as a whole. The combination of works by Anna Franceschini (1979), the Italian visual artist and filmmaker, andSteve Piccolo (1954), the American multidisciplinary artist known for his sound installations that also involve forms of visual contextualization, in contemporary locus 2 is the second double show – after that of Huma Bhabha and Francesco Carone– that juxtaposes different cultures and artistic practices in a single itinerary, constructing a path inside the dark, secret spaces of an unknown place. A place whose entrance is hidden, as in ancient legends, on a large grassy knoll, a garden with trees overlooking the entire modern city below.
