Claudio Luti, president and owner of Kartell, has received the Premio Isimbardi 2013. Since 1953 the Province of Milan has organized the "Day of Recognition" to present awards to citizens and associations of the cultural, social, artistic, economic and sporting spheres, connected to the Milanese territory and outstanding for their contribution to the community. Since 1999 the provincial honor, namely a gold medal and a certificate, has been known as the Premio Isimbardi. In the traditional ceremony the President Guido Podestàawards the gold medals and certificates. Claudio Luti has received the prize for the following reasons: “After having worked in the fashion sector, alongside great designers like Gianni Versace, in 1988 he acquired Kartell, where he is now the owner and President, and proceeded to nurture technological and stylistic innovation in the firm. While respecting Kartell’s ‘soul’, know-how and strategy, Luti has understood the need to conduct different research on products and materials, contributing to free plastic of its typical connation from the 1980s, that of a ‘cheap’ material. The company has worked with leading names in international design, from Philippe Starck to Vico Magistretti, Ferruccio Laviani to Antonio Citterio, Ron Arad and many others. Luti has also launched an important retail project, developing a distribution network as the main tool to communicate the identity of the Kartell brand, an example of creativity and success of Made in Italy in the world."
