26 May – 25 November 2018
For the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the Turkish Pavilion presents the project Vardiya / The Shift curated by Kerem Piker and coordinated by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).
Co-sponsored by VitrA and Schüco Turkey, the project is located in the Sale d’Armi of the Arsenale.
Addressing this year’s theme of Freespace, Vardiya is a program of public events that transforms the Turkish Pavilion into a platform of creative encounters, collaborative production and cultural exchange.
122 international architecture students from 16 different countries will visit the Turkish Pavilion in weekly ʻshifts’ to operate as active producers of the evolving exhibition content.
They will take part in workshops and discussions, and will hear lectures by invited professors, designers and architects.
The program begins with multimedia installations through which visitors are informed about the future activities and themes of the workshops.
During the 25 weeks of the Biennale, the Turkish Pavilion will host 13 workshops on various topics; about 50 digital encounters with participants from various disciplines; and 6 lectures by important international professionals.
All the workshops, digital encounters and lectures will be open to visitors.
