Walking with Art. Stonefly Art Prize is back in Milan, in the spaces of Viafarini at the Fabbrica del Vapore, to present a solo show by Enej Gala (Slovenia, 1990), winner of the sixth edition of the prize organized by Stonefly and Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, in collaboration with the organization for the promotion of artistic research Viafarini.

In the show that opens on 11 February, Gala presents the mechanical installation Prefabrick (the work that won Walking with Art – Stonefly Art Prize 2015), accompanied by a series of works done during the year of residency, contributing to “narrate” the artistic evolution of this young contemporary art talent.

Prefabrick is the work inspired by Dance Dance Dance, the theme selected for this edition of the prize, taken from the novel published in 1988 by the famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. In this work the young painter expressive the need for digital natives to come to terms with the traditional media of painting, sculpture, drawing and installation in an innovative, imaginative way.

Gala reflects on the ambiguity of continuing to dance, often interpreted by today’s society as a metaphor for continuing to produce and to live at a frenetic pace. The work, a surreal installation, represents a tired body, a strange animal-like machine, that can be activated by the viewer, permitting it to move and dance, or to stop.
