The Lewis Arts Complex designed by Steven Holl Architects for Princeton University is a space for the creative arts, including dance, music and theater.

Three new buildings occupy an area of about 13,000 m2: the Wallace Dance Building and Theater, a circular volume; the Arts Tower, a central presence with spaces for the visual and literary arts; and the New Music Building.

In this project Steven Holl experiments not only with different architectural forms, but also with the juxtaposition of different materials, using the effects of light in a particularly effective way.

Alongside glass, which permits development of the concept of indoor-outdoor interaction, the architect has opted for a stimulating, fascinating material: the natural stone by Pimar.

Natural beige stone blends perfectly with the other materials – glass, concrete, wood – giving the Lewis Arts Complex a novel luminosity.

The architect personally visited the Pimar quarries and selected a portion exclusively set aside for the Princeton University project.
