Design and sustainability: Fontanot presents the first guide for the transformation of refuse into furniture

Fontanot launches Fontanot Zero Waste, the first guide to conversion of packing crates into original design objects in wood. A bench on which to park bicycles, a shoe rack with a seat, an adjustable table or an urban garden: wood is a living material, always ready to reinvent its role.

All these projects are the results of the work of dozens of students and young talents from the main design schools and universities in Spain and South America. They all took part in the Zero Waste Fontanot Award for the promotion of responsible design and reuse of materials.

The winning project was Mesa Funcional (functional table) by Matías Schumacher: an adjustable table designed for interiors that can also be used as a hobby workbench.

The other finalists were the project Be Ecool, a multifunctional bench for sitting or resting, parking bicycles and storing various objects; and Fienile, a wooden garden shed.
