Ettore Sottsass: Design Radical

Laminates designed by Ettore Sottsass at the Met Breuer in New York

21 July – 8 October
Data Pubblicazione: 18 July 2017

The exhibition Ettore Sottsass: Design Radical is a tribute to the great Italian designer for the centennial of his birth, featuring historic pieces from his prolific career, including many resulting from his long collaboration with Abet Laminati.

Through a chronological presentation of works from different disciplines, each piece designed by Sottsass establishes a dialogue with objects by artists with whom he always had many affinities (Kandinsky, Klee and several representatives of the Bauhaus).

The show explores Sottsass’ relationship with color through laminates, with decorative motifs created from the late 1970s to the early 1980s with the Memphis group, produced by Abet Laminati.

Large panels made with the patterns Rete 2, Veneziana, Bacterio and Spugnato completely cover four columns, from floor to ceiling, creating a two-dimensional effect of great visual impact.
