Interni Icon Makers: After “Design Icons” in 2016, with 500 iconic products of Italian design from 1954 to the present, this year the focus shifts to the protagonists ‘behind the scenes’ of design.

From large to small-scale projects, from architecture to product design, the theme running through this edition is the pursuit of new scenarios of “custom living”.

We encountered this search in the creative factory of Six Gallery in Milan, where architects David Lopez Quincoces and Fanny Bauer Grung have established their new studio. This hybrid open space dedicated to encounters and relations comprises a bistro, design gallery and floral design store that are part of the holistic dimension produced by a laboratory that is a hotbed in terms of direct relations, circulation of ideas, dialogue, cross-pollination and inspiration for new challenges.

A shared emotive and cognitive experience was also offered by the 21 exhibition blocks forming the new Lego House designed by Bjarke Ingels: an ingenious project celebrating imagination and experimentation (not just by children), that is open to the Billund city (company headquarters) and its inhabitants. Leaving aside the functional requirements and expressive codification connected to the interpretation of a space or product, research implies the desire to go beyond, to seek and find new occasions to exchange ideas. To encounter other tastes, cultures and forms of behaviour.

The selection presented in the design section also proposes objects produced by innovative technologies or processes, offering a degree of personalization never attained before, verging on the physical emanation of the user.
