Only The Best

Superstudio Più – Via Tortona 27 – Milan
17-21 April 2018, 10-21 / 22 April 2018, 10-18

While the mission of Superdesign Show regarding quality, excellence, research and the original concept “less fair, more museum” remain unchanged, the theme of each edition is updated: this year it is Only The Best, a programmatic statement proposed by Gisella Borioli, who has called on Giulio Cappellini to be the art director and protagonist.

The selection focuses on big names, innovative projects, lifestyle trends and technological solutions that improve the environment and everyday life, in countries that have always been on the front line of quality design like Japan, and the emerging centers of the new design, like the surprising Egypt. The most eagerly anticipated and extensive projects that will enliven the scene at Superstudio represent four cardinal points: the super solo show by Nendo; the international brand of high-tech and sustainability Dassault Systèmes with a project by Kengo Kuma; the exhibition Smart City extended to mid-May, still at Superstudio Più; and the Superloft, the home of everyone’s dreams, with top brands of Italian design.

The Superloft created by Cappellini is an imaginary but real, cool and eclectic, erudite and elegant dwelling, with the participation of the most interesting protagonists of design Made in Italy and master craftsmen. Superloft will also be open in the evening, after hours, with invitations to private dinners in a sophisticated signature space. A different type of visit, to share the emotions of design in terms of both friendship and business.

Spectacular and sensorial, Nendo: forms of movement is an exhibition that will guide viewers this year through a mysterious labyrinth: 10 concepts based on the idea of movement, springing from the function, the material or the production method of an object. The show will feature not only finished products, but also models and sketches, in a fascinating voyage into the heart of design creativity. Besides Nendo, the Central Point will host an entire enclave of established companies, startups and hubs for the promotion of design Made in Japan, in an itinerary through space and time, with the contrasts between advanced technologies and age-old traditions.

With the exhibition Design in the Age of Experience, Dassault Systèmes proposes an iconic installation that sums up the concept of design for life and responds to the growing problem of air pollution. In an attempt to combat this environmental and social problem, Dassault Systèmes has asked Kengo Kuma and Associates to create an experiential project that makes optimal use of already existing anti-pollution solutions.

With the art direction of the architect Giulio Ceppi and the support of the City of Milan, the second edition of the exhibition produced by Material ConneXion Smart City: Materials, Technologies & People has been expanded this year to occupy over 1000 square meters of space. The show prompts reflections on the theme of the intelligent city starting with its inhabitants, introducing solutions, materials and technologies.
