Our October issue focuses, in the architecture section, on 360° hospitality proposals, analyzed in terms of design. A design that often relies on iconic signs capable of encountering and interacting with the history of a place, bringing out dialectical awareness in the act of breaking up, overlapping, perforating and dilating spaces.

FuoriSalone Guide® 2014
2014, the year in which INTERNI celebrates its first 60 years, but also the 25th year of the FuoriSalone and its Guide. Two anniversaries that make us proud and encourage us to achieve new, even more ambitious goals, also with an eye on the upcoming EXPO Milano 2015, which we start to approach with the exhibition Feeding new ideas for the city, whose contents look forward to the major theme of “nutrition” of Expo Milano 2015. The event happens in the courtyards of the Università degli Studi of Milan and, for the first time, the Botanical Garden of Brera, a new location selected by INTERNI because the magazine has organized the garden’s renovation. Pavilions, experimental works of micro-architecture or macro-objects, created with the support of avant-garden companies in the field of materials and technology, create a detailed, sculptural composition, done by internationally acclaimed architects and designers. Daily encounters with master designers, students and teachers enrich the cultural debate and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the magazine, which offers an international audience a wide range of publishing initiatives: INTERNI, INTERNI PANORAMA, INTERNI KINGSIZE and the FUORISALONE GUIDE. This year the range of events taking place around the city has expanded, to about 500, presented in alphabetical order, in a day-by-day section, and with a thematic itinerary organized by sectors. Don’t forget that all the FuoriSalone events and all the most important locations of design and the city can be downloaded from the precious INTERNI App for iPhone, iPad and Android. Have a great Design Week! Gilda Bojardi Download the FuoriSalone Guide® 2014 Web App: www.guidafuorisalone.com Application:
The book “A World of Values. Innovation, Culture, Research”, created through collaboration between Mapei and Interni, narrates how the future of this Company will be based on a spirit of continuity. This original spirit of Mapei is its driving force: keeping faith with authentic principles, firmly rooted in the central role of the founding family, determining economic, financial and strategic choices.
“The sharing of corporate values, in keeping with a family tradition that makes the force of the Group its strong point, has led to another historic passage in the second half of the 1990s, namely the entry of my children in the firm: Marco, who is now director of Research & Development for the whole Group, and Veronica, as director of strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, as well as new start-ups. Together with their efforts to make Mapei continue to grow today, there are the managers of the Company, 50 people with central control over the activities of the Group; this is the core team, always traveling throughout the year, making sure that the various affiliates are all operating in close compliance with the operative philosophy of the mother company”. Giorgio Squinzi CEO of Mapei Founded in 1937 in Milan, today Mapei is the world’s leading producer of adhesives and chemical products for the construction industry. Through 19 projects, selected from the innumerable works completed by the Company all over the world, the book interprets the “secrets” behind this success: research, internationalism, design and culture. From the high-speed rail line to the restoration of the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi, the expansion of the Panama Canal to the Olympic Stadium of London, Teatro alla Scala in Milan to the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the focus on the international scene has been one of the strategic choices that have led to Mapei’s strength. Today the Group is composed of 65 associated companies, with 62 production plants operating on 5 continents, in 30 different countries, each with its own quality control laboratory. The constant internationalization is directly linked to the growth in sales over the last 20 years: in 1990 the Group reported sales of 150 billion lire, in 2001 aggregate sales of 725 million euros, of which foreign trade accounted for 57%. Total sales for 2011 surpassed 2.1 billion euros. The number of employees has also grown rapidly: from the start of the 1990s, when there were just over 500, to the present level of more than 7500 persons, of which 12% operate in the field of research. www.mapei.com
