Bologna Design Week and Cersaie reinforce their collaboration in the name of design

After the success of the first two editions, Bologna Design Week is back, this year with Cersaie (the international fair of ceramics for architecture and the bath) as its official partner. Design and creativity, education and the world of production return to Bologna in 2017.

From Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 September, exhibitions, design events, workshops, competitions and design talks will bring energy to the historical center for five days devoted to design and the creative-cultural industries (see full program).

On Wednesday 27 September Design Night, organized in collaboration with Confcommercio Ascom Bologna, will light up the city center.

As at the previous editions, the initiative sets out to bring together examples of excellence from the worlds of culture, production, distribution and creativity in the territory and beyond its boundaries, involving art galleries, museums, universities, showrooms, companies and architecture firms, in an integrated system of communication that permits activation of synergies between industry, culture and creativity.

Starting on 20 September, it will already be possible to visit the exhibition Scatto Libero. Dino Gavina dieci, produced by Bologna Design Week and supported by Gruppo Hera, curated by Elena Brigi and Daniele Vincenzi, at Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, the branch location of the Pinacoteca. The show pays homage, ten years after his death, to Dino Gavina (1922-2007), one of the most outstanding Italian design entrepreneurs of the 20th century.

The main location, info and press point are back this year at Palazzo Isolani, which will also host a selection of design companies with original installations in its 18th-century rooms, and in the former Ospedale dei Bastardini.

At Palazzo Isolani, the Salone del Settecento will host the installation of the winner of the contest Temporary Living Space, produced in collaboration with Molteni&C|Dada, while the Sala dei Senatori will present a preview of the exhibition L’originale è Vitra.

At the former Ospedale dei Bastardini, amidst striking installations made by brands and designers, visitors can see the exhibition Marketing Design Napoli&Bologna. Storie di invenzioni e successi, and the prize ceremony of the photography competition Cathedrals of Light, organized by Paolo Castelli S.p.A. as a tribute through light to the architecture of the city of Bologna. In the courtyard, the BDW Cocktail Bar Good Vibes.

Another reference point is the Quadrivio di Galleria Cavour, a historic meeting place of fashion, art and design, with the group show Milleluci – Italian Style Concept curated by Davide Vercelli and Angelo Dall’Aglio; the two sets La Dolce Vita and Breakfast at Tiffany’s will function as gates to Cersaie, underlining the bond between the fair and Bologna Design Week.

Other locations to visit: the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria della Neve, for design talks and workshops coordinated by Insidesign Studiostore, and Le Torri dell’Acqua (Via Benni 1, Budrio), for Racconto privato – il design dell’imperfetto, an exhibition by Erich and Verter Turroni (ImperfettoLab), curated by Claudia Cocchi.

From 15th to 18th September in Rho Fiera Milano, the eighth Lifestyle Trade Fair

Habits, tastes, trends, in a word, “lifestyles”: art of living is the idea at the heart of the eighth HOMI, that will take place from 15th to 18th September 2017 in Milan Exhibition Grounds, the trade fair that shows how fashion has influenced our daily lives over time, a magnifying glass on the new trends that characterize home furnishings and personal items.

A new and appealing layout provides a full experience of the trade fair, through an exhibiting formula that this year too proposes areas devoted to experimentation and focuses on increasingly more widespread trends and habits: Living Habits, Fragrances&Personal Care, Gift&Events, Kid&Style, Hobby&Work, Wellness&Beauty, Fashion&Jewels, Garden&Outdoor, Home Textiles, Concept Lab.

Furnishing objects reflect people’s personality and aesthetic taste: from tea cup sets to kettles, from candles to tableware, from textile items to wall decorations, furnishings tell something about your personal taste and express a style. Customizing home spaces means making them “unique”, surrounding yourself with things you get attached to over time, associated with the memory of a special moment.

Technology plays a fundamental role in our daily lives and is always present in our homes and the objects that surround us, a reality that follows the trend of being “smart” both at home and outside and of sharing the space of our intimacy through social networks: that’s where HOMI Smart originates, an experimental format created in co-operation with IDLAB, an opportunity to exhibit concrete examples of the ever closer relationship between design and technology, with beauty experienced through objects and shared through social networks.

The Lifestyles Trade Fair also provides an occasion to discover the new frontiers of design, emerging designers and companies that rely on high quality artistic craftsmanship. In September this offer will be enhanced by two special areas. In the first one, WGSN, a leading company at an international level in market analyses and surveys, will present the new industry trends, while in the second one, the POLIdesign of Milan will make a focus on new materials and on colour.

New young emerging artists and designers are the target of HOMI Maker Design Award (on the initiative of HOMI in co-operation with Artex and with the sponsorship of CNA and Confartigianato, this is a contest for young under-35-years-old self-producing craftsmen and/or creators) and Design Competition, an important initiative promoted by the Lombardy Region, in co-operation with Unioncamere Lombardia and ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Association for Industrial Design), that gives them the possibility of exchanging with the market and experimenting by designing new objects for the home and personal items.

Design, arts and crafts, research and tradition combine perfectly well in initiatives such as La Magnifica Forma, an event devoted to the rediscovery of a unique Italian craft and cultural heritage whose prestige is well-known and appreciated worldwide.

The September edition of MAISON&OBJET, the international fair of home decoration, interior design, architecture and lifestyle, is back at Paris Nord Villepinte (8-12 September 2017).

One of the new developments at this edition is the Objet section, which has been updated to optimize the visitor experience, presenting the latest offerings on the market and showcasing various new trends. It will also be possible to meet over 1000 exhibitors in three clearly identified lifestyle areas: Cook&Share, Home&Fashion Accessories, Smart Gift.

In addition, MAISON&OBJET Projets proposes a range of offerings on a very high level organized around the art of tailor-made living, for the Contract & Hospitality sectors, previewing a concentrate of innovations in terms of products, materials and technologies.

Since its founding MAISON&OBJET Paris has paid close attention to young design talent. The Rising Talent Awards present the next generation of design stars, young creative professionals (selected from graduates of the Ecole Supérieure de Création Industrielle ENSCI – Les Ateliers), in a special area for their latest creations: Claire Lavabre, Alexander Echasseriau, Julien Phedyaeff & Christopher Santerre, Luce Couillet, Lisandro Graebling, Samy Rio, Raphaël Pluvinage & Marion Pinaffo and Jean-Baptiste Fastrez.

MAISON&OBJET Paris highlights the most outstanding signatures on the international design and decor scene, selecting a designer of the year as the specific focus of each edition, with an accent on product design in January and interior architecture in September. After Pierre Charpin in the month of January, the personality chosen for September 2017 is the interior designer Tristan Auer.

Now at its seventh edition and well positioned in the international design panorama, Paris Design Week (8-16 September) has a strategic slot in the trade fair calendar: to discover new locations, new collections and new talents in the same period in which the protagonists of design, decor, fashion and art gather in Paris for the main event of the fall season.

Three Sicilian online dealers of designer furnishings have quickly conquered, through a constant focus on quality, the top ranks of search engines, reporting a very high level of sales.

The online market is growing fast thanks to a cultural shift among consumers, but it demands great expertise and managerial capacities, especially in the complex phase of product delivery – of complicated, delicate and costly objects – and in the area of regulations and taxation, with respect to each and every country to which goods are shipped.

Milia Living Home, Scillufo Arredamenti and Mohd – Mollura Home Design are the three Sicilian firms that stand out, combining organizational capacity with control of all these various aspects, and racking up remarkable sales results in a short period of time. They are recognized leaders in the sector on a European level, also thanks to the portfolio of partner brands and the collections they are able to offer.
