Fundamentals, directed by Rem Koolhaas and organized by the Venice Biennale, under the guidance of Paolo Baratta, is the title of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, open to the public from Saturday June 7 to Sunday November 23, 2014, at the Biennale Gardens and the Arsenale. Fundamentals contains three complementary events (Absorbing Modernity 1914-2014, Elements of Architecture, Monditalia) that shed light on the past, present and future of architecture. After a series of Biennales focusing on contemporary issues, Fundamentals will concentrate on history, with the goal of investigating the present state of architecture and imagining its future. 65 nations will participate in the Garden Pavilions, the Arsenal and the historical center of Venice, including 11 countries taking part for the first time. The Italian Pavilion at the Arsenale, organized by the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities with PaBAAC (General Directorate for landscape, fine arts, architecture and contemporary art) is curated by Cino Zucchi. The opening ceremony for the 14th Architecture Biennale will be held on Saturday June 7, at the Gardens, with the announcement of the official prizes assigned by the international jury.
