It is now possible to sign up for the international design and self-production contest for furnishing complements and accessories to be used in the lodgings of the Expo Village, which will house the delegations and staff from all over the world for Expo 2015. The competition– promoted by the Department of Design of the Milan Polytechnicwith EuroMilano, the real estate developer working on the area of Cascina Merlata that will contain the Village – is conceived to ‘give identity’ to the interiors of the Expo Village, involving a lively community of makers, designers and self-producers. Space for creativity, for objects capable of speaking different languages, versatile, original, ecocompatible and truly contemporary: furnishing complements (coat racks, mirrors, shelves, magazine racks, object caddies, wall clocks), objects for the home (vases, trays, photo holders, bookends), stickers, photographs and wall decorations, fabrics and cushions, together with everything that can contribute to make living space more appealing. The projects will be evaluated by a jury composed of Michele De Lucchi, Giuseppe Sala, Alessandro Pasquarelli, Stefano Maffei, Luisa Collina and Luisa Bocchietto. Among the criteria, originality of the idea, functional quality, experimentation with materials and finishes, environmental sustainability, consistency with the context, technology and safety. The ten winners will receive a prize of 8000 euros to make 40 pieces, which will be used to furnish the 400 apartments of the Expo Village. www.designercercasi.eu.
