A selection of the photographic work of Matteo Guzzini, African Heroes, is on display at the Macro – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, in the new edition of Art in Lobby, the show that involves the foyer spaces of the museum, open to the public free of charge. African Heroes, already presented in Milan in March in a solo show at Fondazione Mudima, investigates the customs of the Samburu, one of the last great African semi-nomadic tribes of central-southern Kenya. An original itinerary in multiple phases that evokes – without facile folklore or the exoticism of an occidental perspective – an ancient anthropological fabric made of traditions and knowledge, intertwined with everyday life, investigating physical features, nutritional customs and the nomadic character of the Samburu people. The photographic project by Matteo Guzzini can also be seen in the book African Heroes, published by Skira. Proceeds from sale of the volume go to Amref Italia, for the construction of a school for the Samburu Lorokushu clan, near Lolmolok.
