The second edition of the event will be held from 19 to 22 October 2023, here's what to see and what not to miss

Holidays in Versilia 2023: whoever spends the summer here will certainly have scored the splendid town of Pietrasanta, a small town located at the foot of the Apuane Alps , not far from Forte dei Marmi, and known for its prolific cultural climate enlivened by the many artistic workshops and numerous art galleries that attract tourists and experts from all over the world.

Right here, from 19 to 22 October 2023, the Pietrasanta Design Week-end is back for its second edition, a form conceived by Studio Coronel and organized in collaboration with the Comune of Pietrasanta and under the patronage of ADI - Association for Industrial Design and of the Order of Architects of Lucca.

Pietrasanta Design Week-end: what it is

During the four days of the event, numerous art galleries of Pietrasanta will give life to an exhibition spread throughout the streets of the centre, welcoming some design icons among the works on display.

The beating heart of the event is the splendid Complesso di Sant'Agostino, where the conferences and some of the most representative exhibitions will be held.

The photographic exhibition of Veronica Gaido in the rooms of the cloister also fits between art and architecture. Le di lei di lei Le città invisibili will transport visitors into a vibrant architectural dimension, the poetic figure of the photographer originally from Versilia.

The theme of the Pietrasanta Design Weekend 2023

The theme of the 2023 edition of the Pietrasanta Design Weekend is The propagation of ideas an invitation to share and reflect on how ideas trigger destructive interference in some cases and slow down their spread, in other cases, constructive interference, which accelerates sharing and leads them to success.

Some become Genius Ideas, the title of the exhibition curated by Giulio Cappellini, Compasso d'oro for his career, designer and art director in the Church of Sant 'Augustine. A selection of iconic design products which, due to their shape, material, production process or simply functional or formal intuition, have become timeless objects, the undisputed protagonists of the spaces in which we live.

Always in the cloister and in the hanging garden come the Ideas adrift. An 'open source' collective exhibition that will connect the thoughts of architects and designers in a sort of wireless telephone of ideas.

Each Studio that wants to participate will receive a kit with some materials and an imaginative word with which to make a model.

To this first word they will be able to add a second one, which will inspire the following Study. Creativity, the value of connections and sustainability will be in the DNA of this exhibition/experiment which will give a new expressive value to the production leftovers of partner companies.

The most anticipated moment is Friday 20 October, when 10 crews made up of the most important design studios on the Italian and international scene will compete in a regatta sailing : "in the informal atmosphere of a sporting (and goliardic!) competition, that team spirit and that sense of belonging are created, which for over twenty years has been our great strength" comments Paola Coronel art director of the demonstration.
For the first edition of sailingCAD (sailing Competition for Architects & Designers) ten studios were chosen among the friends of Design Week-end: 967Arch, Alfonso Femia Ateliers, aMDL Circle, Carlo Ratti Associati, GBPA Architects, Giuseppe Tortato Architetti, One Works, Parisotto + Formenton, Progetto CMR and Studio Marco Piva.

On board collaborators and consultants linked to the world of design. Sailing architects and designers can apply to become part of one of the crews: thus opening the first season of the transfer market that will enliven the summer break.

A rich calendar of meetings moderated by the journalist Giorgio Tartaro will mark the rhythm of the four days, during which the curators of the exhibitions, the designers involved in the regatta of various international guests and stake holders of the most important brands will intervene of design and the nautical sector.

Among the partners of the event there is Cisco, which wanted to host the presentation conference in its Cybersecurity Co-Innovation Center, the first co-innovation center dedicated to security computer science in Europe and hosted in the spaces of the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci, created to share knowledge, promote culture and digital innovation, as well as develop technologies that put man in the center.
