At the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, until 12 January 2025 interactive installations and generative artworks experiment with digital technologies in relation to the analogue dimension. The aim? To generate emotions

Generative and participatory art: the artistic works of the British collective Universal Everything speak a new language in which visitors take on a creative role. Inaugurated on the occasion of the Open Night of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology for the European Researchers' Night, the two installations will remain on display until 12 January 2025 and are part of Digital Aesthetics, the Museum's permanent digital art programme that explores the connections between research, technological innovations and artistic creative processes.

Texturality and movement

The creative process behind the project draws on the visual culture of the last century, from the Futurists' attempt to represent the body in movement to the early experiments in cinematography of Eadweard Muybridge's photographic series. Starting from a simple hand-drawing we arrive, with the integration of technology, at materiality and movement.

Kinfolk and Infinity

Kinfolk is an interactive installation that reinterprets human qualities through artificial intelligence by creating curious moving figures with fur, luminous bristles and coloured threads that change their appearance with every gesture of the people in front of the screen. In Infinity, on the other hand, the combination of humanity and technology aims to evoke sensations: code-generated digital creatures parade in an endless parade. Playful, large, hairy, rocky or mineral, liquid or gaseous, vegetable or architectural forms that change and transform in a continuous journey that evolves with time.

Inventing new experiences

Matt Pyke, founder & creative director Universal Everything explains: ‘Kinfolk and Infinity combine our interest in human beings and their cognitive capacity with our passion for inventing new experiences through new technologies. We are happy to exhibit our artwork in a museum that explores and operates in these specific areas. We are curious about the reactions of the public as they watch, create, move and collaborate, hoping that they will enjoy and feel that touch of humanity behind the machine’.

A global network

One of the pioneers of generative art in over two decades of experimentation, the Universal Everything collective develops research collaborations with global brands, cultural institutions and creatives to explore the artistic potential of emerging technologies. The team comprises a global network of more than 60 collaborators with expertise in experience design, research, sound design and creative direction.
