Spazio delle culture Khaled al-Asaad / 8 June – 26 August 2018 – MUDEC – Museum of Cultures – Via Tortona 56 – Milan
The exhibition at MUDEC presents a selection of Indonesian batiks from mostly private collections, with the aim of narrating the history of these fabrics that embody culture, tradition and craftsmanship.
The project is curated and coordinated by Associazione Culturale Paths, created to acquaint the Italian public, through exhibitions and cultural activities, with the little known or forgotten arts and crafts from the Italian tradition and from other parts of the world.
The show curated by Giulia Ceschel and Laura Todeschini reveals the various cultural and artistic stimuli that connect the European world to certain Asian countries, especially the island of Java in Indonesia, towards the end of the 1800s and the start of the 20th century, a period in which the Art Nouveau movement was spreading in Europe.
