Interni September in Newsstand. Supplement: Interni Annual Cucina 2018.

The large living area for the house designed by Mikal Harrsen – MA/U Studio. Ph. Christoffer Regild

Our September issue, as usual, is on Italian design and the most interesting new developments that emerged from the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April. We have narrated products and trends in a special report that involves the authorial interpretations of four photographers, to accompany us in the discovery of 20 new furnishing proposals.

The vitality of Made in Italy is the guiding theme of the entire issue. Starting with the selection of works of residential architecture that illustrate the value of design products (also in limited editions) inside a wide range of spaces and contexts. From a glass house in Basso Monferrato to a historic family home reinvented in Lomellina, arriving in Milan as a choice of residence for the Danish designer Mikal Harrsen, and the New York of new showcases, where the flagship store of Molteni Group (designed by Vincent Van Duysen) underlines the international spirit of Italian business.

The anniversaries of other majors in the sector (120 years of Giorgetti, 70 of Minotti, 30 for Modulnova), celebrated on the following pages, remind us that this positive period has been built on an unforgettable past. Like that of Osvaldo Borsani, honored in a very timely retrospective exhibition, with exhibit design by Norman Foster at the Milan Triennale. And a future yet to be unveiled, with the initiative of five brands making their debut this year with excellent design signatures, documenting a fertile relationship between crafts and industry.

Finally, we offer a focus on the Freespace theme of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, until 25 November, followed by a poetic look at the Vatican Chapels, the Holy See Pavilion built as a congeries of works on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Produced thanks to the excellent know-how of Italian companies, working in close collaboration with the architects.
