From the collaboration between Brdr Krüger and AHEC comes a lounge collection by the great Danish master Hans Bølling (which we will see at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen)

3daysofdesign, the appointment dedicated to design to be held from 15 to 17 June in Copenhagen, will be the occasion for the world debut of the first collection of lounge armchairs designed by the master Hans Bølling and made by the manufacturer kult Brdr Krüger in collaboration with the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).

From architecture to small wooden objects (for which he is very famous), Hans Bølling is considered one of the fathers of Danish design.

Born in 1931, craftsman and architect as well as designer, he worked on the small and large scale, passing from furnishings to institutional buildings, bringing in every works a great charge of positivity, grace, irony.

His extensive portfolio was missing a collection of lounge chairs, now in production with Brdr Krüger thanks to the collaboration with AHEC which helped the company to select the American hardwood necessary for the realization of the collection.

The new collection includes, in addition to the lounge chair, a stool and a coffee table coffee, both inspired by his classic Tray Table of 1963 by Hans Bølling, and is made with three species American hardwood (red oak, cherry and maple) scarcely used and specially selected for their combination of sustainability, durability and structured beauty: red oak, cherry and maple.

Using wood from afar may seem like an unsustainable choice but, in reality, the opposite is true. As David Venables of AHEC explains, expand their selections of wood qualities and inspire the use of alternative wood species, not subject to excessive consumption, it is a responsible choice that must be supported.

And this is precisely the message that emerges from Bølling's lounge seating collection: "it's nice to work with a master like him", says Jonas Krüger, creative director of Brdr Krüger , “And leverage his unique gaze on structure and proportions.

We like how he manages to infuse subtle layers of details and honest solutions into a project that still remains rigorous: these are qualities that make his he design engaging and easy to use. Bølling is a master of emotional simplicity and this makes his design timeless. Together with AHEC, we are convinced that this project will push other designers to use wooden materials alternative".

The collection will be presented for the first time in the The house of Hans Bølling exhibition curated by Sara Martinsen with an installation inside the Krüger in the heart of Copenhagen during 3daysofdesign from 15 to 18 June 2022.

The exhibition will offer visitors an insight into Bølling's life and creative process, as well as showcase the strength, character and versatility of new renewable hardwoods. To accompany Bølling's furniture, Martinsen has also created a series of bespoke artworks using again red oak, cherry and the maple.

The works of art draw inspiration from the circle, the shape that defines both Bølling's original Tray Table and his new works, and tells about sustainability and responsible production.
