The artist's exhibition was created to raise awareness of environmental protection and respect: through works that testify to a vigilant awareness of the passage of life and time

The Italian Cultural Institute of Dakar (48, rue Léon Gontran Damas, Fann Résidence) hosts the first stage of the exhibition Una infinita attesa dell'alba by Flaminia Mantegazza, curated by Giovanna dalla Chiesa, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. From 18 October to 12 November 2023, Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and evenings during events.

A reflection on the planet

The Institute's intention is to highlight an artist committed to raising public awareness of environmental protection and respect. Flaminia Mantegazza proposes a reflection on the planet and its resources in an exhibition presented on the occasion of the Settimana della lingua italiana nel mondo, dedicated in 2023 to the theme L'italiano e la sostenibilità, with the aim of promoting, through language, the culture of respect for the environment.

Art as bearer of hope

Climate catastrophes and geopolitical tragedies have accelerated the collapse of our civilisation, the path of the 'bearers of hope' is arduous. The gap between what is proclaimed and what is accomplished is too great to make global proposals. Only individual responses, including those of Flaminia Mantegazza, can start a new path.

A patient slowness

Artists, for a long time, all over the world, have been making their contribution. Flaminia Mantegazza's is a work that reuses paper, one of the infinite benefits bestowed on us by trees. The patient slowness with which, piece by piece, her mosaics take shape, testifies - in the gratuitousness of an act that is a meditation - to the vigilant awareness of the flow of life and time within us.

It takes another life

Moving towards another life, on the part of each person, is the consequence of small gestures. Precisely those that our current way of life, through ignorance, distraction, man's sense of superiority over the Planet, would like to invite us to abolish at all times. Flaminia Mantegazza starts from these assumptions, reusing paper, one of the infinite benefits that trees, the first to be constantly outraged, have bestowed on mankind.
