Fragments of art, sediments and memory intertwine in an exhibition that investigates the essence of the Palazzo del Teatro Nuovo in Bergamo, a place of undisputed charm no longer accessible to the public. Until now

Exhibition of contemporary Genius Loci has inaugurated above the ancient theater and cinema hall of the Palazzo del Teatro Nuovo in Bergamo, a place of undisputed charm, no longer accessible to the public and which will return to exceptionally welcome visitors until Sunday 28 November.

Fragments, sediments and memory intertwine with the works of Italo Chiodi, Hannah Quinlivan and Guido Nosari De Danieli to investigate the ' essence of a space abandoned for years, but steeped in memories. A place that has been a vital center of cultural production, a reference for the city.

The glorious history of the Palazzo del Teatro Nuovo to (re) discover

The Palazzo del Teatro Nuovo, built in 1897 in the area of the Piccinelli Garden (in Largo Belotti 15) on a project by Guttermayer and Albini which were inspired by the Dal Verme Theater in Milan, it was inaugurated in 1901. In 1950 it was transformed into a cinema and continued its story, between various events until 2005, the year of its final closure.

The Genius Loci exhibition was created to testify the importance of promoting cultural activities in places that have been closed for some time, to allow you to discover (or rediscover) spaces that have marked the history of Bergamo.

For some time now Guido Nosari De Danieli from Bergamo has chosen the upper floor of the building as his art studio. Now, in collaboration with Fondazione Bortolaso Totaro Sponga, has started the project Genius Loci, exhibition curated by Giovanni Berera which presents works, as well as Nosari, by Italo Chiodi and Hannah Quinlivan.

Three different artists who compete in a space that until the end of November will relive a new story. Three different fragments of artistic production to create a path in which memory and prophecy are deeply intertwined.

Turn the spotlight back on a special place of cultural production

Reopening the doors of the New therefore becomes both memory exercise and a opportunity offered to the whole city to discover a hidden treasure and place a attention - renewed - on a special place of cultural production. Already last spring, with the Solitary clouds project, Nosari De Danieli had turned the spotlight back on , then only on the external facade of the building, thanks to an installation that ideally aimed at to mend the ties that were broken due to the pandemic.
