70 shops opened in the city and a large exhibition built around rituals of existence (with the artistic direction of Luca Guadagnino)

From 1 to 30 September 2024 returns to Venice, for its third edition (and with the creative direction of Luca Guadagnino), Homo Faber, the exhibition and city itinerary that pays homage to contemporary craftsmanship but also invites us to reflect on the value of human mastery and creativity.

Homo Faber 2024 amplifies the already great success of previous editions (almost 5,000 visitors) and involves 70 ateliers in the event and offers visitors the opportunity, thanks to a dedicated app and website, to choose between thematic itineraries or customize their own path, immersing themselves in an experience that embraces tradition and innovation.

Homo Faber 2024: the creative direction of Luca Guadagnino

Under the creative direction of Luca Guadagnino, renowned director and visionary, together with the architect Nicolò Rosmarini, the event takes shape around the theme "The Journey of Life", exploring the fundamental phases of human existence by telling them through objects – products of excellence – that accompany them. This project, born from an idea by Hanneli Rupert, vice president of the Michelangelo Foundation, offers an immersive journey within the magnificent complex of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, transforming the exhibition space into a living metaphor of the journey of life.

A life journey through craftsmanship

The installation designed by Guadagnino and Rosmarini is not a simple exhibition, but an experiential journey that involves visitors in an emotional and intense narrative. From childhood to old age, each phase of life is represented through unique crafted objects, made by masters from all over the world. These carefully selected objects not only represent the fundamental stages of existence, but also embody the excellence of artisan techniques, with particular attention to innovation and tradition.

Homo Faber in Città: what to see and where

In addition to the main exhibition, Homo Faber 2024 expands beyond the confines of the Giorgio Cini Foundation with "Homo Faber in Città". This program, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, invites visitors to explore the lesser-known Venice, that of artisan workshops and hidden laboratories. From 1 to 30 September, over seventy workshops will open their doors to the public. A unique opportunity to enter these magical spaces and attend, for example, a demonstration of the art of grinding and engraving crystal in the Panizzi Murano laboratory, to observe the skill with which the master Saverio Pastor creates the characteristic fórcola from a single piece of wood, to meet the Venetian regatta sailor Anna Campagnari, who in her studio in Santa Croce dedicates herself to the creation of traditional flags, to follow the glass-making process, from the raw sand to the finished product, at the Fornace Mian.
