Mexico City, Madrid, Seoul, Tel Aviv: INTERNI is present in person and on all continents on the occasion of the Italian Design Day, IDD 2022

Since 2017, every year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration and with the support of the Ministry of Culture organizes the Italian Design Day, a thematic review which aims to promote Italian design in the world giving voice to the realities - entrepreneurial, cultural, educational and institutional - as well as to the people who contribute to the development of the system.

The IDD2022, which has as its theme “Re-Generation, Design and new technologies for a sustainable future”, also features INTERNI as a protagonist in a series of events and talks. Here they are.

Design of Materials for a Sustainable Future, Seoul, Korea (with director Gilda Bojardi)

The Italian Design Days in Seoul, chaired by the Italian Ambassador Federico Failla, will be held in the permanent design showroom in High Street Italy and online (see below) and will be opened on 23 March by the Ambassador 2022 for South Korea, the architect and designer Raffaella Mangiarotti, creator of some of the most iconic everyday objects.
Mangiarotti will speak on the concept of "Sustainability in design: taking care of your things and yourself", thus sustainability as a way to take care of what concerns us.

This will be followed by interventions by Korean panelists who will bring the perspective of Korean drawing on these same themes: Kim Soo-jeong , the influential Director of the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCa) and Lee Kyung- don, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, the Foundation that manages the spaces of the very famous Dogngdaemun Design Plaza in the heart of Seoul.

The second day, March 24, will see the special and exclusive participation of Gilda Bojardi, director of INTERNI and founder of the FuoriSalone , who will speak on one of the hottest topics of the moment: l material design as a contribution to sustainability .

In her speech (to be held in Italian), Gilda Bojardi will talk about Tecla, the sustainable house by Mario Cucinella , from Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and the installation Natural Capital by Carlo Ratti Associati (which, at the last FuoriSalone, in the context of INTERNI Creative Connections, proposed a physical visualization of the relationship between plants and CO2 absorption).

It is a very innovative approach to design, which does not look at objects from the traditional point of view, but analyzes their composition to find solutions already, precisely, in the materials themselves, from paints, to fabrics, to anchor chemical structures, with a strong focus on new technologies.

This will be followed by speeches by Architect Yun Sang-koo, Vice President of The Rotary Foundation and President of the Seoul Spring Chamber Music Festival, and by Architect Maing Pil-soo, Professor at Hongik University School of Architecture.

For those who cannot be present at the event, the Italian Design Day will take place in hybrid form: it will in fact be possible to participate in the seminars also online, via live streaming on the official channels of the Embassy (on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

In Tel Aviv, Fulvio Irace: The invention of “Made in Italy”. From the Salone del Mobile to Gio Ponti

Design, which has been confined for too long to the realm of the material production of "objects", must now face the challenge of the intangible, progressively shifting attention from material goods to the world of behavior and communication.

The international furniture fair, which has been held in Milan since 1961 under the name of Salone del Mobile, is the perfect demonstration of how design has rapidly evolved from the simple display of objects to a more complex media organization that aims to remodel the complex. Milanese urban in a sort of international scenography.

The conference, to be held in English on March 24 (link to subscribe) intends to reconstruct this process, going back to the origins traceable in the efforts made by Gio Ponti to promote the quality and uniqueness of Italian creativity through the “Made in Italy” meme.

To illustrate it, Professor (Emeritus) Irace will use the images from the book XXX-Y, 30 years of FuoriSalone published by Electa / Mondadori
