At the Interni Café della Stampa at Cersaie, scheduled for 24 September at 3.00 p.m. in Mall 29/30, ‘La città buona’, a conversation between Alfonso Femia and Patrizia Catalano, underlines how a collective awareness of the value of water, in its meaning of ‘supreme good’, can lead to a review of our values (even those we believe to be inalienable) and to imagine new spaces and projects for a city that is suitable for everyone.
Alfonso Femia, architect and Founder of Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia AF517 based in Genoa, Milan and Paris, is in fact devoting much of his design and philosophical work to water and the architecture of Mediterranean cities.
In the endless literature that travels on Instagram, we read that a thirteen-year-old Indian boy, upon learning of the enormous amount of water that is used in the production of denim cloth, decided to take his old breeches, rip them up and then make a canvas sleeping bag to give to the homeless.
The buzz among family and friends meant that the young boy's outburst of indignation and generosity gave birth to a start-up that provides denim sleeping bags to the poor who sleep on the streets in the young man's home town.
It is well known that in India there are many who live on the streets (and unfortunately the phenomenon is also on the rise in the West). Water is a commodity that should be the right of all but is often wasted for the benefit of a small part of the population.
