Over 50 thousand attendees from 140 countries: the 58th edition of Marmomac confirms its leading role for the stone industry globally. Between business and project culture

Attracting exhibitors and visitors from countries around the world, fostering cultural and commercial exchange; being able to adapt to the needs of markets with different traditions and history; offering exhibition spaces, talks, shows and networking activities that meet the expectations of a global audience: today, the internationality of a trade fair format is crucial to its success. Furthermore, the presence of visitors and exhibitors of different nationalities enriches the experience, creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation in a dynamic and stimulating environment where ideas can flow freely between different cultures. A philosophy always espoused by Marmomac, which celebrated its 58th edition last September.

Model of internationality

‘This edition,’ emphasises Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere, ’attests to Marmomac's leading role as a model of internationality and innovation, as emphasised by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Business and Made in Italy, during the opening ceremony. This success is the result of strong collaboration with Confindustria Marmomacchine, ICE Agency, the Ministries of Maeci and Mimit, trade associations and institutions in the area’.

Top 5 foreign buyers

The exhibition, in terms of attendance by foreign operators, was a litmus test of the trend in the main destination markets for Made in Italy techno-lapid production. In the Top 5 of buyer attendance at Marmomac 2024: Germany, Spain, USA, France, India. ‘Marmomac is the absolute benchmark for the entire natural stone industry worldwide,’ explains Veronafiere CEO Maurizio Danese, ’and as such reflects economic changes and geopolitical tensions. Confirmation comes from the composition of the Top 5 foreign buyers: in order, Germany, Spain, USA, France and India. Compared to 2023, we saw a contraction from Germany and France, a consolidation for Spain and the USA, and a 10% increase from India. Also worth mentioning is the exploit of the United Kingdom, in double figures with +20 per cent’.

Two major initiatives

The internationality of the format was reinforced by two initiatives presented during the event. ‘At Marmomac, we signed the renewal until 2029 of the framework agreement between Veronafiere and Confindustria Marmomacchine for the joint promotion abroad of the made-in-Italy marble system,’ says Adolfo Rebughini, Director General of Veronafiere. ‘Added to this is the launch of Marmomac Brazil, a new exhibition platform that will debut in Sao Paulo in 2025 to consolidate our positioning in the American continent. Two actions that are part of a long-term vision to increase the presence of Italian and foreign companies in strategic markets’.

Exhibitions, conferences and workshops: project culture at the centre

In addition to its centrality for business, Marmomac this year also represented an important opportunity for discussion and training on culture and new languages related to stone material, through exhibitions and more than 40 conventions and workshops at The Plus Theatre and A matter of stone, ending with courses for architects at Marmomac Academy. The 2024 edition also saw an enhancement of female entrepreneurship in the stone sector thanks to the award by the national association Le Donne del Marmo (Women in Marble) and the recognition of I Mastri della pietra, awarded for the first time to four women.

The next edition of Marmomac is scheduled from 23 to 26 September 2025.
