An exhibition on the world’s most widespread piece of furniture: the white plastic chair.

The outstanding example of a product for mass consumption, the one-piece chair can be found everywhere people need an inexpensive place to sit, from European gardens to African villages, to cafes and restaurants in Asia.

The exhibition Monobloc – A Chair for the World narrates the history of this omnipresent everyday object.

Focusing on 20 chair models, the show examines the history and the cultural connotations of a chair that has made its mark on the world.

Monobloc is the third temporary exhibition held in the Schaudepot of the Vitra Design Museum built in 2016 and designed by the studio Herzog & de Meuron.
