The tenth edition of the international competition for young architects and designers promoted by Floornature.com with the support of the Iris Ceramica Group Foundation has started

Registration is open until May 30 for the Next Landmark 2021 international online competition for young architects and designers who have graduated from 2010 to today. The tenth edition is titled Functional Mixité: new links between architecture and inclusive and sustainable urban spaces. The two winners will be announced by 30 June 2021 and will be rewarded with a stay in Venice on the occasion of the 2021 Architecture Biennale.

Launched in 2012 by the online magazine Floornature.com with the support of the Fondazione Iris Ceramica Group, Next Landmark is an international online competition that aims to highlight the projects of young architects and designers. Since its inception, it has been conceived as a means to promote the fundamental role of design culture, the relevance of the social dimension of architecture and the importance of disciplinary transversality in the design of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.

For the tenth edition, the title 'Functional mixité: new links between architecture and inclusive and sustainable urban spaces' was chosen, a theme that focuses on the new needs and requirements of the contemporary city and of those who live it every day. Going beyond the traditional concept of zoning, the design strategy of functional mixité conceives urban and architectural spaces as places where functional, social and morphological aspects integrate with each other to foster and strengthen relationships and bonds. To this end, residential, commercial, infrastructural, leisure and green area architectures must be integrated at the neighborhood, street system or even single building level, to create a network of proximity and a sense of belonging, in full compliance with people and nature.

One project will be selected for each of the following categories: Landmark of the Year Award, for a completed work, and Research Award, for an academic or independently developed project. The two works that will stand out for their originality, low environmental impact, new ways of using space and technical, aesthetic or conceptual innovation will be awarded.

The jury of the 2021 edition of Next Landmark will be composed of Anna Bach, architect, co-founder of A&EB, Associate Professor at the EINA University of Barcelona and Gisela Loehlein, architect, Head of Department of Architecture at the XJTLU University of Liverpool , by Federica Minozzi, CEO of Iris Ceramica Group, Carlotta Zucchini, THE PLAN artistic director and by Paolo Schianchi, architect, lecturer at IUSVE, Salesian University Institute of Venice and Verona.
