The Milanese edition of Open House is back, with a program of new initiatives. An international showcase of architecture, founded in London in 1992, which has involved 37 cities around the world in the Open House Worldwide circuit.
In the wake of increasingly variegated, spontaneous participation, and the important contribution made by the initiative to foster Milanese architectural heritage, the third edition features new proposals, collaborations and possibilities to visit over 100 sites around the city.
The goal is always the same: to rediscover the identity of Milan through architecture and to encourage participation thanks to special openings of buildings that are normally not accessible to the general public. Visitors can observe the transformations in progress in the city, as well as Milan’s wealth of artistic and cultural heritage. All thanks to the help of a network of volunteers – there were over 300 at the last edition – to conduct the guided tours.
This year the sites opened to the public are 110 in number, including many new places like the Velodromo Vigorelli, Laboratori Ansaldo of Teatro alla Scala, Atelier Colla, the former Aereonautiche Caproni factory (Officine del Volo), Teatro Lirico, Teatro Gerolamo, and the Moschea al Wahid.
A circuit on interiors will focus on the latest trends in living space, at locations like Dimore Gallery, Brera Design Apartment, Casa Barrel12, Costanza Milano – GreenHouse Loft.
Other openings include Palazzo Lombardia, the Pirelli tower and Grattacielo Milano, the headquarters of Corriere della Sera and the RAI facility on Corso Sempione.
This year marks the beginning of a satellite itinerary with the opening of historic sites at Vigevano, a first step in extending the event to the areas around Milan.
This year the project is supported by Ordine degli Architetti di Milano, which through its Foundation will selected certain itineraries in the Open House program, providing those who complete them with professional education credits.
