The manufacturer of large low-thickness ceramic surfaces has inaugurated the second production line of the Borgo Val di Taro plant which allows for improved product quality and sustainable performance

20 years since its foundation, Laminam celebrated the doubling of its third production plant in Borgo Val di Taro: a sustainable growth that allows both to reduce delivery times and to continue to create products that respect the environment, improving its quality and performance.

The reality of Fiorano Modenese, which invented the technology to produce large ceramic slabs with low thickness and high performance, brought together in the Parma province local and regional institutions, personalities from the ceramic district, exponents of the economic-financial world, suppliers and employees to celebrate the milestone reached and reflect on the challenges of the near future.

The event Sustainable Evolution

On 5 November 2021 in Borgo Val di Taro (PR) the event Sustainable Evolution was staged in which 150 guests took part and which attended by Alberto Selmi (president and CEO of Laminam), Giovanni Savorani (president of Confindustria Ceramica), Edoardo Lanzavecchia (Managing Partner of Alpha Group) and Stefano Bonaccini (President of the Emilia Romagna Region). The guests, organized into groups, then took part in a guided tour of the production plant.

A memorable day, characterized by the euphoric atmosphere of the first times and by an audience of the best opportunities, to talk about the work and investments that allow Laminam to maximize the energy efficiency of its plants and to produce renewable energy, as well as protecting and growing human capital. In summary, by describing a way of doing business , looking to the future with confidence, planning and attention to the environment and people.

The numbers of evolution

On the occasion of the event, there was talk of the present and above all of the future, and it was done with considerable positivity, born and confirmed by the numbers presented by Alberto Selmi, CEO of Laminam. In the five-year period 2014-2019, the Italian Group has in fact recorded an average annual growth rate of 27%. In 2020, the year of the pandemic, lockdown and immobility, the turnover settled at the levels of 2019 to reach in the first 9 months of 2021 a growth of +43 % compared to the first nine months of 2019 , confirming extremely positive forecasts for the end of the year.

“In our evolution, we are inspired by guidelines aimed at excellence that see in digital transformation, in internationalization and in sustainable innovation i vectors of our new era”. These were the words with which Alberto Selmi illustrated the evolution process.

The presence of Laminam in the world

Ambassador of Italian design in the world, today Laminam has a production plant in Russia, 10 commercial branches and numerous logistics centers and showrooms all over the world. Its surfaces are distributed in over 100 markets and sales abroad are worth 79% of consolidated turnover. To these two guidelines is added sustainable innovation, a cornerstone in which the Group firmly believes, so much so as to support it with an investment plan of over 50 million euros dedicated to the expansion and renovation of the plants through the use of innovative technologies developed together with the main suppliers and partners.

Environmental and social sustainability

From the product to the people, from the processes to the supply chain: everything in Laminam is designed and built to measure and contain its impact, guarantee health and safety of employees, to create and innovate products in a eco-sustainable way.

In 2021, Laminam adopted an integrated Quality-Environment-Safety policy, obtained the ISO 14001 Environmental Certification for the Italian plants and extended the EPD Certification to all products, finalized the study of the Company Carbon Footprint and published the second Report of Sustainability .

In the wake of a development that sees the Group committed to a sustainable growth process, there is also the utmost attention to act in respect for the territory. For this reason, the installation of innovative and unique systems in the sector that drastically reduce emissions into the air (whether organic or inorganic) makes it possible to reduce the environmental impact. The implementation of these same abatement systems for the capture of CO2 is also in the research and development phase.

The extensive use of photovoltaics for the self-production of "green" energy is combined with the electrification of the production process and logistics and the maximization of energy efficiency through the use of technological innovation.

People at the center: from employees to customers

The driving force of innovation in Laminam is the people. The warmth, enthusiasm and passion with which each of the guests took part in the Sustainable Evolution event testified to this. And this is also evidenced by the growth in personnel which, in the last 9 months, has seen employees increase by 100 units, for a total of about 700 people, of which 500 in Italy. These are periodically offered training, refresher and safety courses. In the Italian factories the number of female employees represents almost 40% of the total, a percentage higher than the average in the ceramic sector, as is the percentage of young people.

A sustainable innovation that radiates beyond the structural boundaries of the company and is rooted in the territory, involving the institutions and communities to which it belongs and in which it operates. There is also a close relationship with technical training institutions, universities or post-graduate masters: with them Laminam develops skills, as well as training and hiring young people.
