The presentation this morning at the Unicredit Pavilion was the official launch of the 55th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano, the showcase of innovation and business. Various personalities were on hand for the event, moderated by Camila Raznovich.
Carlo Calenda, vice-minister for Economic Development (recently appointed Italian Ambassador to the European Union), emphasized that “the Salone del Mobile is an event that has gone beyond its meaning as a trade fair. It is the fair of absolute excellence of Made in Italy, capable of setting trends all over the world.
Giuliano Pisapia, mayor of Milan, agreed: “The Salone del Mobile was a model of reference in the organization of Expo 2015. It helped us to understand how to move, thinking about what happens every year in Milan during Design Week in April.”
Roberto Snaidero, president of Federlegno Arredo, concluded by stating that “design, innovation and quality are the key words for the appointment this year, of an increasingly international event, with 70% of the professionals on hand arriving from over 160 countries.”
With an offering of products and services at the highest level, Salone del Mobile.Milano is a must in this sector, providing an international showcase for the latest new developments in products and solutions, asserting Milan’s role as the capital of design.
Once again this year the fair is sold out, with 207,000 square meters of display space and 2310 exhibitors, including the 650 designers of the SaloneSatellite, and 30% foreign companies.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is joined by the Salone Internazionale del Complemento d’Arredo, with over 1300 exhibitors in an area of over 150,000 m2, subdivided into Classic and Design categories.
The new xLux sector, in Pavilion 3, has been launched to respond to the growing demand of those who want to give a precise location to this product type, presented until the last edition in a scattered way throughout the various pavilions.
In 2016 the biennial events return: EuroCucina with the collateral section FTK (Technology For the Kitchen), in pavilions 9-11 and 13-15, and the Salone Internazionale del Bagno in pavilions 22-24.
Salone del Mobile.Milano, in the context of the XXI Triennale International Exhibition, presents Stanze. Altre filosofie dell’abitare, curated by Beppe Finessi at the Palazzo dell’Arte of Milan from 2 April to 12 September 2016. The exhibition sets out to underline the special tasks of interior architecture and to provide a vision of our way of living projected into the future.
The next edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano pays homage to what came before the field of ‘design’ as we know it today. The exhibition-event Before Design: Classic, a reflection on the classic spirit in contemporary living, and the short film made by the award-winning director Matteo Garrone (screened at pavilion 15 F15/H18), narrate the classical taste of Made in Italy and its timeliness, in a visual and sensorial itinerary. Artistic direction by Studio Ciarmoli Queda.
An event in the city connected to Salone del Mobile.Milano will be space&interiors, organized by the international biennial of architecture and construction MADE expo at The Mall Porta Nuova – Brera Design District: surfaces, floors, doors and interior finishes, presented in an evocative setting designed by the studio Migliore+Servetto Architects.
Salone del Mobile.Milano also continues after the fair with the Salone del Mobile.Milano Award, in which a prestigious jury will assign prizes to the best designer, young designer, kitchen sector product, furniture sector product, bath sector product, installation and classic furniture. The prize ceremony is slated for 4 May.
