From 20 September to 20 December 2023, at the M7 Museum in Doha, Qatar, an exhibition on the excellence of Italian design curated by Rossana Orlandi

The heritage of Italian design arrives at the M7 Museum in Doha with “ICONE. Voices of Design Made in Italy”, the exhibition curated by the gallery owner Rossana Orlandi a> and designed by the architect LucioMicheletti, which opens on September 20 and will be open to visitors until December 202023.

M7 in Doha: the innovative hub that hosts the exhibition

An exceptional location will welcome her: the spaces of M7, the epicenter of Qatar for innovation in fashion, design and technology, and an international hub for cultural events in the Msheireb Downtown district, in a mix of beauty, technological innovation and sustainability.

Promoted by the Embassy of Italy in the State of Qatar and hosted by Qatar Museums, the exhibition was born from an exchange of agreements between Italy in Qatar, witnessed by ever-growing commercial figures and by major international events such as EXPO Doha 2023 – where Italy will set up a national pavilion designed with innovative and sustainable technologies.

ICONS. Voices of Design Made in Italy, the curation

To maximize the success of the initiative, the institutions have chosen to entrust the curatorship ofICONE. Voices of Design Made in Italyto the Milanese gallerist Rossana Orlandi, known on the international creative scene, winner of the Compasso d'Oro 2022 and ambassador of Italian "good design" in the world. In fact, it was Rossana Orlandi's - thanks to her cosmopolitan vision - the idea of designing and including in the display a showcase designed by the architect Lucio Micheletti of Micheletti+Partners , entirely dedicated to the talent that distinguishes Italian manufacturing.

To further enhance the experience, a path designed to guide visitors among the excellence of the Italian manufacturing industry, exploring the origins of the design of the iconic pieces with the aim of rewarding and highlighting the energy of this sector.

ICONE. Voices of Design Made in Italy, il concept

La mostra ruota attorno a due parole chiave principali: emozione ed educazione. In quest’ottica i creativi coinvolti sono stati chiamati uno a uno a scegliere la creazione che più li ha entusiasmati tra i loro diversi lavori, innescando un dialogo continuo con le aziende protagoniste, partner fondamentali dell’intera operazione.

Per il concept, l’architetto Lucio Micheletti ha immaginato il buio come cornice ideale all'interno della quale collocare gli arredi, fondendo un allestimento museale con un palcoscenico teatrale per stabilire la perfetta concentrazione e atmosfera.

I visitatori all'interno del layout si troveranno avvolti da un intrigante allestimento valorizzato da tecnologie digitali e audio avanzate ad alto tasso di coinvolgimento.

Tutto è volutamente affidato al potere evocativo della luce, che squarcia l'oscurità per rivelare le forme di pezzi molto diversi tra loro, strategicamente isolati grazie all'aiuto di volumi che li elevano. Anche il suono funge da elemento centrale della mostra, rappresentato dalle voci narranti dei designer che hanno ideato gli oggetti in mostra.

La mostra, inoltre, è organizzata in due sezioni: nella prima, la vetrina trasforma gli oggetti in attori. La seconda, dedicata alle aziende del design Made in Italy, introduce invece una compilation di video che ne raccontano le storie sotto la supervisione di Francesca Molteni.
