Bringing historic buildings back to life means creating new opportunities for the community: this is the philosophy that permeates Spazi ritornati. Tobia Scarpa.

Five interventions, one vision

The exhibition presents five emblematic projects that tell the story of Tobia Scarpa's unique approach to architectural restoration: the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, the church of San Teonisto, the Gallerie delle Prigioni and Ca' Scarpa, all in Treviso, and the new Cultural Center of Treviglio, still under construction.

Despite the variety of functions - from exhibition spaces to places of worship and culture - the common thread is attention to the historical and urban context. Each intervention not only preserves the identity of the place, but reinterprets it, creating significant connections between past, present and future.

The dialogue between past and future

One of the most fascinating aspects of Tobia Scarpa's work is the ability to transform historic buildings into contemporary spaces without distorting their essence.

This is the case of the church of San Teonisto, severely damaged during the Second World War, which has now been reborn as a multifunctional cultural space.

Drawings and photographs on display illustrate the creative and technical process that led to its rebirth, enhancing the traces of the past to generate new opportunities for use.

Simplicity and adaptability: the exhibition

The exhibition, designed by the Bergamo-based studio De8_Architetti, stands out for its sober installation, conceived to be itinerant and adaptable to different contexts.

Simplicity becomes a tool to highlight the materials on display – sketches, models, photographs – and to involve a heterogeneous public, making the complex process of architecture accessible.

A visual story: Michele Nastasi’s images

Completing the journey are the photographs of Michele Nastasi, which capture the poetry and precision of Tobia Scarpa’s architecture.

With his lens, Nastasi immortalizes the light, details and volumes that make each project unique, offering a new perspective on the values that animate the architect’s work.

An invitation to reflection

Spazi ritornati is not just an architecture exhibition, but an invitation to rethink the role of historical heritage as a resource for the community. Through the eyes of Tobia Scarpa, the buildings of the past are transformed into catalysts of sociality, culture and innovation, offering new vibrations “in sympathy” with the original ones.

If the challenge of the urban future is to shorten distances and create authentic connections, Scarpa’s work represents an illuminating example of how architecture can respond to this need, combining respect for history and impetus towards the future.
