Lots of new developments for the third edition of the event on self-production, where the designer personally supervises the entire production chain, from the idea to the manufacture to the distribution. On display, objects by 70 Italian and international designers from 11 countries, alongside activities of training, workshops, seminars and talks.

For the first time, there will also be a temporary shop, selling self-produced objects selected from those shown and from previous editions of Source. The period of the event is also longer, extending for eleven instead of just eight days. The exhibition space has also grown: at the Limonaia di Villa Strozzi, this year the event also uses the space of Villa Strozzi (home of the Sino-Italian Design Exchange Centre – www.sidec.cn), for the training programs and encounters.

The exhibition offers a 360° overview of the world of self-production, in the following macro-categories: furnishings and complements, lighting, research and experimentation, objects, jewelry, schools.

The show will be enhanced by an intense program of training activities, talks and encounters. The program kicks off with the talks on “Business as Project” with Umberto Tolino of Thingk, Fabrizio Pierandrei, architect, designer and professor of design thinking, and Alberto Nespoli of Segnoitaliano.

The educational program is divided into two sections. During the first four days pertinent themes will be discussed for self-producers, such as design, marketing and communication. In the days to follow, the training activities will instead be aimed at architects.

All the activities call for a combination of professional training leading to education credits. Different themes will be covered, from the use of tools and techniques for design to the development of LED lighting fixtures, as well as the question of intellectual property.
