Pavilion of the Holy See

16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale

Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice

26 May – 25 November 2018

The ceramic surfaces of Panariagroup have been chosen for one of the works of architecture in the first Pavilion of the Holy See at the16th Venice Architecture Biennale.

Panariagroup has contributed to the construction of one of the ten chapels in the exhibition, namely the one designed by Francesco Cellini, supplying the advanced technology and aesthetic quality of an innovative product: laminated porcelain stoneware.

Thanks to their limited thickness (3.5, 5.5, 6 or 6.5 mm) and great strength, the surfaces offer exceptional flexibility, responding to the design needs of the chapel created by Cellini with its rectangular form and a central transept that cuts perpendicularly across the structure.

The ceramic slabs chosen by the architect belong to two of the group’s brands, Cotto d’Este and Lea Ceramiche, and have been applied both inside and outside the work, combining the appeal of an original architectural project with the technical and aesthetic performance of the materials.

The catalogue of Vatican Chapels – Pavilion of the Holy See, edited by Francesco Dal Co, with essays by Gianfranco Ravasi, Francesco Dal Co and Elisabetta Molteni, is published by Electaarchitettura.

Coordinated image and graphic design of the catalogue by Tassinari/Vetta.
