Catifa Carta, a reinterpretation of a seat produced by Arper in 2001, represents the virtuous synthesis of a sustainable approach to design that has always been part of the company's DNA

Catifa 53 was designed by Lievore Altherr Molina in 2001 and qualified as the first Arper product to obtain environmental certification. Catifa Carta, a reinterpretation presented by the brand in 2024, projects the product into a new dimension, centred on theinnovation of materials and an approach to sustainability that represents one of the fundamental pillars of the brand's identity.

Revolutionary material

Catifa Carta's shell is made of PaperShell, a revolutionary material derived from wood waste that provides the strength and comfort to define its sinuous and instantly recognisable silhouette. PaperShell, never before used for a product in the design sector, drastically reduces the seat's impact on theenvironment by behaving exactly like a tree, i.e. by sequestering carbon dioxide. At the end of its life cycle, the material can be reduced to biochar, a high-carbon substance that enriches the soil and thus supports biodiversity.

Sustainability in detail

Catifa Carta represents a milestone in the sustainability journey undertaken by Arper, highlighted through the recently published Report 2023 dedicated to the topic (which does not include the new seat because it was only introduced to the market this year). The Report offers a detailed overview of the actions taken by the brand on the subject, illustrating a structured approach to its management and exploring key aspects of the new ESRS standards, such as dual materiality and managing its impact.

Value to actions

In particular, the document introduces a new perspective on the latter, measured using the methodology of monetary impact valuation. Arper is the first company in the industry to use impact valuation, which assigns a value to actions in relation to society and the environment and which can finally be measured in a direct and tangible way. The results of the Report clearly summarise how, for Arper, the concept of sustainability goes hand in hand with that of responsibility.

Conscious Aesthetics

The responsibility to help create a culture where these issues are considered central; the responsibility to define unprecedented codes of beauty, which also include values of respect for people and the Planet and which are well represented by a product like Catifa Carta, a plastic demonstration of how beauty, functionality and sustainability can coexist.

Dedicated platform

Totally disassemblable and configurable with three different options for the base, Catifa Carta is now the protagonist of a dedicated digital platform that allows you to discover, explore and buy the revolutionary chair. Since 4 November, in fact, on catifacarta.com it has been possible to reserve it by defining the quantity and base to be combined with the PaperShell shell, and from 25 November it will be possible to purchase and deliver Catifa Carta for the Italian and French markets.
