Waffle by Piero Lissoni: the texture and shape of ancient cast iron radiators, with a tech heart

Waffle renews the concept of the historic cast iron radiator and reinterprets it in its shape, surface texture and materials, preserving its material qualities. Piero Lissoni was inspired by the kinetic art of Enrico Castellani to design its surface texture. Thanks to Antrax IT technology, Waffle recreates the imperfect materiality of cast iron surfaces while using a highly performing material such as 100% recyclable aluminum. Made in a single 61 x 41 cm module, replicable to create radiators of different sizes, it is available with water operation only, in eleven embossed finishes and can be installed either horizontally and vertically. It can be fitted with a wooden towel rail for use in the bathroom. In addition to being composed of only 100% recyclable aluminum, it is equipped with the company’ patented assembly system that, with a single piece, allows water to pass through the collector and the elements to be joined mechanically. It is devised to be installed in any interior in the home or the contract sector.

What is it?
Waffle is a furnishing radiator, for residential and contract environments. If fitted with the wooden towel rail from the catalogue, it is ideal for the bathroom. It is intended for a public of architects and interior designers, attentive to aesthetic detailing, technology and product sustainability.
What is the design concept?
Waffle renews the concept of the traditional cast iron radiator and reinterprets it in its form, surface texture and materials, preserving its material qualities. Piero Lissoni was inspired by the kinetic art of Enrico Castellani in designing its surface texture.
How is it made?
The radiator is made entirely from 100% recyclable aluminum. Its surface is powder coated, with eleven different embossed finishes available.
How is it produced and where?
The radiator is the result of the study and use of two technologies: the front plate (made by an external supplier) is created from a 100% recyclable aluminum casting with a shell mold that maintains the porosity and texture of the surface. The rear of the radiator (curated in-house by Antrax IT at its Resana facility), welded to the plate, is made from a series of extruded aluminum profiles, specifically designed to make the product highly functional, so securing outstanding thermal efficiency.
How is it manufactured?
The front plate is assembled to the rear part by a manual operation requiring specific technical welding skills. The front is similarly powder coated by a specialist technician.
What is special about it?
In addition to consisting exclusively of 100% recyclable aluminum, it is fitted with an assembly system patented by the company that allows, with a single piece, the passage of water through the collector and the mechanical union between the elements.
What is it like?
Material, sustainable, three-dimensional.
