Giorgetti unveils Houdini, a sculptural cabinet with a thousand secrets, the result of a centuries-old cabinet-making tradition, modern technology and the fruitful collaboration with Roberto Lazzeroni

Signed by Roberto Lazzeroni Houdini is a rich and articulated cabinet that, like a precious casket, reveals an obsessive attention to details. It is created in full harmony with the ability to choose and treat the raw material, with the technical preparation and artistic sensitivity of the R&D department and with the artisans of the Giorgetti company that produces it. Houdini is versatile and adaptable to both living areas and bedrooms, to classic or contemporary atmospheres, ideal for containing bar sets and table services but also clothing, jewelery and accessories. Available in two versions, Houdini comes with one or two columns equipped with drawers, shelves, compartments, pocket emptiers and it features doors finished in leather illuminated by a LED system. The internal shelves present bronze or gray glass inserts, depending on the essence of the external inlays. The top is equipped with a raised flap covered in leather revealing the internal compartments. The exterior is made up of canaletto walnut or maple inlays arranged according to the direction of the wood grain, vertical and horizontal, to obtain an iridescent effect on the surface. The shape of the inlays has been realized by arranging perpendicular and inclined lines to create a curious optical effect: the inlays seem to tighten at the center of the cabinet and then widen at the upper and lower ends.

At a glance

What is it?
Houdini is a cabinet for the living area and the bedroom: it can house bar sets and tableware or clothing and accessories. It has a fluid location: it is possible to give free space to one’s creativity and imagine a tailored use to everyone’s needs.
What its design concept?
The idea of this piece of furniture arises from the observation of the silos usually located near the rural buildings in Lombardy, forms that are also used in Aldo Rossi’s architecture. These shapes hide secrets and mysteries: hence the name Houdini.
How and where is it manufactured?
Like all Giorgetti products, Houdini is entirely made in Italy, combining advanced processing techniques of the materials composing it: from the structure to the wooden accessories, to the leather interiors, up to the countless metal components.
What makes it special?
It is an ambitious and complex product, yet another challenge presented by Lazzeroni. It took a long time: Giorgetti had to solve various technical problems making use of all his knowledge and interfacing with many suppliers because the furniture is made up of many components.
In the designer’s own words
I wanted it to be a mysterious piece of furniture, which had secrets, which escaped any classification. It is not a sideboard, it is not a container, it is not a bar cabinet: it is a bit of all these things. In the version with two doors, the columns become two trunks that open and reveal shelves, compartments, drawers… the object is more structural and architectural, like a sculpture. It is a kind of magic, a house of things, a box of wonders.
