Once upon a time there was a world where the bathroom was the bathroom. In the sense of a service room. Then over time the evolution of the home environment has considered the bathroom one of the rooms of the house and from then on, with small steps, the bathroom becomes more and more a room to be furnished. For product design it is one conquest after another. Color, for example. Over the years it was an indispensable must, Fantini introduces color already at the end of the 70s by betting on an unexplored area. And again the surfaces, which between the 80s and 90s explored ever more sophisticated identities, such as mosaics. And then finally the taps. Legends said that the very rich had them in solid gold. The people of contemporary society then simply began to have more and more choice in forms and functions, the new luxury has a very personal register.
The intelligence of the design works on both functional and aesthetic details. A concept on which all Fantini's work is based. Thus the taps, over time, become sophisticated tools. The work on beauty is not secondary, also because from the semantic point of view the tap is the precious link between water and the domestic environment. Between nature and civilization, in a nutshell. The magic of tame flowing water in homes increasingly inspires the evolution of the entire bathroom. From service to place of well-being. From the taps and shower heads the water pours, sips, falls like rain or mist, massages like a waterfall. The entire water imaginary is represented in contemporary bathrooms and, simultaneously, the taps enter the ADI collection and the attention of design critics. As happened to the AK/25 Compasso d'Oro 2020 system, a work by Paik Sun Kim for Aboutwater, by Boffi and Fantini.
“Nature is a source of inspiration for design" in the thinking of the Korean architect. “Water constantly changes shape: it is rain, snow. Sometimes it becomes sound and color and, in the end, when it meets the sea it disperses. We must open ourselves to these concepts. There must be a philosophy behind the design and the objects we use. It is the onerous task of the designer”. Words that explain with great precision the symbolic role that the Piedmontese brand gives to each piece of its catalog. It is the thought that shapes the choices of Daniela Fantini, CEO of the brand. “The qualities of water communicate vitality to the human being, give psychological energy. Aboutwater is the expression of all these thoughts,” said Paik Sun Kim during the development of the project.
There is the technique, the hydraulic mechanics. But it blends in a surprising way with poetry and with the thousand variations that water creates. So much so that the systems sometimes multiply in an incredible number of versions and possibilities. This happens, for example, in the case of the Acquafit collection, 130 different combinations, for as many ideas and interpretations of designing water. Acquafit is a multifunctional and multisensory shower. In rectangular, square and round versions, with or without light, it is available for ceiling, recessed, semi-recessed, outdoor installation or with wall arm. With or without light, white or chromotherapy. A hydraulic object that becomes an emotional presence in everyday life.
Variety speaks of sophistication and typological research that flows in many different directions, supported by technology that offers always different production processes and finishes. Let's take colors for example. Dozens of different colors, new shades that are added season after season. It is the evolution of the PVD coating that this year enriches Icona collection by Vincent van Duysen with two new finishes: Raw Metal PVD and Pure Brass PVD. In addition to the six variants already present in the catalog of this popular Fantini collection. A product that As often happens in the work of Van Duysen, remains in balance between a rationalist thought and the continuous quotation of the historical sign. These are the qualities of the great classics, which best express the ability of the project to support the daily relationship with the human being.
