Ara Maris, a five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the Sorrentine Peninsula, is the latest project involving the Giussano-based company

To establish itself as excellence in the designfurniture sector, a company must be able to move in different directions: not only designing furniture for ever-changing domestic environments, but also tackling broader customised projects for prestigious realities and locations. Since the Seventies, Molteni&C has set up the Contract Division to make its know-how available to customers, with the aim of creating furnishings and interior design for very different situations ranging from residences to hotels, boutiques, libraries, cruise ships and military vessels.

A project in the Sorrento Peninsula

With this in mind, Molteni&C took part in the interior design project for Ara Maris, a five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula characterised by a design that captures the essence and energy of the coastal town and the nature that envelops the landscape. The hotel's strategic location, a starting point for admiring and exploring the area and venturing out to sea, lends itself to boat trips and excursions to the nearby islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida.

Landscape, art and relaxation

At Ara Maris, furniture and common areas blend with the landscape. The interior accommodates an exhibition space with international contemporary art works. The jewel in the hotel's crown is the relaxation area with swimming pool and solarium, surrounded by greenery and designed to offer a space where one can dedicate oneself to one's own well-being.

The contribution of Molteni&C

Molteni&C participated in this exclusive project by supplying all the fixed furniture and furnishings for the common areas and bedrooms. The latter are characterised by the use of wood combined with chromatic finishes that make the rooms warm and welcoming. While the cold tones, such as the blue of the walls or the sea-blue majolica tiles used in some corners of the room, recall the colours of the sea.

Equipped walls and wall coverings

The common areas, reception, lobby, restaurant and bar are furnished with customised Molteni&C equipped walls and wall coverings. An iconic element of the lobby is the large bookcase separating the reception area from the transit area. In a combination of wood and metal, the structure presents a series of arches, alternating empty and full spaces to offer glimpses of the rooms behind and a view of the internal garden.

Big names for big collections

The rooms are furnished with pieces from the Molteni&C collections, including the Louisa and Regent coffee tables, the Cleo sofa and Walter armchairs, all by Vincent Van Duysen, and the Chelsea sofa and armchairs by Rodolfo Dordoni. Ignazio Gardella's Blevio table, part of the Rodolfo Dordoni completes the furnishings.
