Conceived during the first lockdown, PostHome is now a reality. Smart, welcoming and stimulating, the Milanese apartment in a 1930s building in Città Studi responds to the various housing, work (and even educational) needs for the ‘new normality’

Created from the reflections of Claudia Campone, founder of theThirtyOne Design studio, relating to the housing, work and educational needs that emerged during the first lockdown period, PostHome is now a real and functional (ideal) residence.

The apartment – very Milanese – , on the third floor of a 1930s building in via Teodosio 15, in Città Studi, is configured as a smart and multifunctional home developed ad hoc for the new normality, able to guarantee that hybridization of spaces which we have felt the need so much in this pandemic year.

Safe and easy solutions equipped with all the most innovative technological facilities, create a place-non-place able to offer a pleasant stay, usable with simplicity: a domestic refuge dedicated to peace and well-being or to carry out work activities, even for workshops and university research.

Configured as a sequence of colorful and welcoming, dynamic and stimulating environments, PosHome provides an entrance-filter between the outside and the inside, a vestibule with the double role of sanitation, with the small sink and the changing room, and a locker thanks to which it is possible to receive deliveries safely while protecting the rest of the home.

Extending over an area of about 50 square meters, the residence unhinges the traditional layout of the interior spaces by introducing a central cardinal volume that fluidly determines the functions of living: from the kitchen to the bathroom up to the bedroom designed for relaxation and for the home working, set up with a multi-level bed created ad hoc and a (poetic) niche for the study.

From furnishings to objects, from surfaces to coatings, up to technological solutions, there are many design companies that participate in the realization of the project: Abet Laminati; Arper; Azzurra; Benvenuto Mastri Vetrai; Black Tie; Climatex by JAB; Davines; EF di Anna Paparozzi; fangoRosa; Hi Lite Next; IO.T Solutions; JAB; Kataba; Lanificio Leo; Lutron; Nodus; Rubbettino; Samsung; Soraman; Teamwork; Tecno; Tubes; WallPepper/Group; ZeroBriciole.

To these renowned realities, small craftsmen and hardworking workers are added. PosHome thus turns out to be a choral and  tailoring project based on innovation and sustainability.

At the base of the creative process, the interconnection between design and technology. From a smart living and user friendly perspective, the features of the home, from booking (for home working, as a showroom or meeting space) to the use of devices up to consumption control, are perfectly integrated with the design choices, which can be managed remotely via app and intuitive, for optimal, simple and immediate usability.

“PostHome is a research and experimentation project conceived during the first lockdown of last year” explains Claudia Campone, founder of ThirtyOne Design. “I had the strong will to convert that moment from critical to prolific, transforming it into an opportunity to study and deepen the issues related to living. In the development phase of the project, together with my team, in addition to formal and chromatic insights, we concentrated on sharing the project with colleagues, academics and, of course, with the companies and artisans with whom we constantly collaborate. It was exciting to see the interest and willingness to listen to each of them”. The constant stimulus to sharing has also led us to create collaborations in the city and in the territory in which PostHome is inserted: we started by designing the PostVoices in-depth review, the space then also transformed into a house / laboratory that hosts a researcher of the CIMaINa of the University of Milan and among the next initiatives we are planning a visionary workshop with NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti.

“So, the idea of making it a space shared by several partners who are living in it as an immersive showroom: an after-home house to be experienced right away” tells Claudia. “The constant stimulus to sharing has also led us to create collaborations in the city and in the territory in which PostHome is inserted: we started by designing the PostVoices in-depth review, the space then also transformed into a home/laboratory that hosts a researcher of the CIMaINa of the University of Milan and among the next initiatives we are planning a visionary workshop with NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti”.

Before becoming the creative location of a workshop of NABA students, led by Claudio Larcher, who will be called to live and tell the space, experimenting with new ways of representation and communication, PostHome is now hosting an international researcher, thanks to the partnership with the Interdisciplinary Center for Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces for the PrintMed 3D international health research project.

“This partnership, in which technology, design, industry and health participate and interact, make it possible to make the educational and technological offer extremely interesting to host researchers from abroad and confirm Milan as an international attraction”, explains Paolo Milani, professor of Physics of Matter at the University of Milan and director of CIMaINa.

Created based on an accurate research that makes it interpreter of the needs linked to the new concept of normality, which require increasingly flexible and multifunctional experiences, which can be shared and used in a simple and immediate way thanks to technological facilities, PostHome is a format that can be replicated in all the world from a glocal point of view.
