In the 4th district, inside the Gürtel, a residence of about 200 sq meters, with a terrace of 120. A spatial unit that combines different functions, offering fine views of the city and the surrounding green area.“ As usual, we started by analyzing the intrinsic qualities of the context, to try to enhance them. Specifically, the design approach involved the theme of fluid spatial transitions: we tried to dissolve the boundaries of the habitat box, between inside and outside, open and closed, nature and construction, to make the architectural concept have a balanced relationship with the surrounding environment. In this perspective, the living spaces are configured more like places than like rooms, inside a unified vat with open geometry, where the layout and the coexistence of identified, complete functions establish an ongoing dialogue with the outside world. Also in terms of routes and circulation.”
Each element has been carefully inserted in the whole, precisely because each part is always visible, in relation to the rhythm of the new continuous glass walls that follow the eaves along the pitched roof, with an abrupt slope on its larger side, bringing light, fluidity and continuity of lines to the succession of living-kitchen-dining spaces (a single whole at the center of the composition) and the bedroom zone (with rooms to the right and left). On the opposite side, facing south, the orthogonal planes stage a sort of tableau vivant, underlined by the presence of the terrace whose slight level shifts seem to stimulate a different perception: the inhabitants become part of the urban fabric, while the latter becomes part of the interiors, in a true exchange.
“One important aspect of the project was to make the multiple visual relationships tangible, to bring out the vibrant modulations of natural light across the hours of the day.” The geometric design, a sophisticated balance of axial lines and symmetry, harmony and counterpoint, enhanced by materic-chromatic patterning, intensifies the mood of this spatial experience. “Chosen for their almost sculptural image and performance,” Corian and stainless steel are the protagonists of the surfaces, in pursuit of visual dilation and openness in the architectural scheme. The same is true of the skin of the custom furnishings that form a unit with the enclosure, “also interpreted in the living area with extensible, mobile pieces, in tune with the different needs of the inhabitants.”
In the master suite, on the other hand, total white has been intentionally “called upon to emphasize the sense of calm and relaxation that reflects the role of the space.” The artificial lighting (in a lighting project developed in collaboration with Zumtobel) makes a strong contribution to the overall choreography. Inside the range of selected materials, the lighting reveals all the presences – from the surfaces to the monolithic furnishings – defining the character of this interior while producing a clear, neutral screen. Ready to welcome and absorb the mutable spectacle of urban projections beyond the glass.
