If Xylography exhibited the results of Supra Dream, Orografie worked at the Emersivi workshop. Here are two contests staged EDIT Napoli that tell a new way of living: vertical and amphibious

With the aim of giving voice to new generations of designers, ready to challenge traditional production and distribution chains, the editorial and authorial design fair EDIT Napoli was the stage (and the school) for two contests that we particularly liked. Supra Dream, curated by Matteo Ragni for Xylography , and the Emersivi workshop conceived by Orografie. In common fresh, unusual and above all versatile ideas to meet the needs of the living - hybrid and with multiple usability - contemporary.

Woodcut: furnishing elements based on vertical development to optimize space

Able to rethink the living space in an unexpected (raised) way according to contemporary (changing) needs, the multifunctional Pole and New Habits certainly did not go unnoticed at EDIT Napoli.

Paolo Stefano Gentile , the designer of the Pole filing system and the young team composed of Luca Magistrali, Alberto Massara, Marco Merafina, Alice Platania and Giacomo Quinland, the creators of the partition New Habits, were able to respond to the challenge launched by Supra Dream, the contest created by Matteo Ragni for Xylography, reference in the design of exhibition stands and custom-made furnishings: creating new flexible furnishing elements based on vertical development , to optimize space in homes modern.

Pole is a system that exploits the height and the fixing system between floor and ceiling to create a useful piece of furniture for the entrance area, by a central pole - coat hanger or umbrella stand - and by a large volume , capable of transforming itself into a convenient storage space raised and 'dematerialized' thanks to the use of mirrored surfaces. With its extreme versatility, Pole can adapt to ceilings with a height from 2.7 to 3.1 meters.

The New Habits divider tackles the problem of space in a different way, but always keeping the gaze upwards: with this project, the designers have deliberately addressed the theme of cohabitation, taking advantage of the height to create a new piece of furniture capable of innovating the use of space, combining the function of a wardrobe with a relaxation/work station at height . In this sense, design becomes the enabler of an unprecedented experience, capable of raising the point of view of people and radically changing their perception of space.

Orografie: a storytelling workshop to tell the new amphibious design

EDIT Naples was not only an exhibition context, but also a creative and working context. In fact, the workshop under 35 of storytelling Emersivi took place which concluded the first phase of a contest whose final results will be presented in Milan during the FuoriSalone 2022.

After four intense days of briefs, work, revisions - and a lot of enthusiasm on the part of the 12 undergraduates and recent graduates - , the jury evaluated, selected and awarded the projects that will become part of the story of 'new rites of living'. Two young writers and illustrators chosen by the jury to describe the new 'amphibious design' of which Orografie becomes a spokesperson.

During the days of work in Naples, stories and illustrations were developed that outlined the new futuristic scenarios in line with the design thought that characterizes the Sicilian brand: the investigation of contemporary digital and analog functions and their multiple usability.

The jury, made up of the 2 tutors of the workshop Paolo Casicci (journalist and copywriter) and Angelo Ruta (illustrator ), together with 4 other jurors: Giorgia Bartolini (founder Orografie), Vincenzo Castellana (art director Orografie), Domitilla Dardi (editor EDIT Napoli ) and Emilia Petruccelli (EDIT Napoli director), awarded Chiara Frascà, for illustration, and Anna Maconi, for writing.

If Chiara Frascà, with a mature trait despite her young age, was able to grasp the irreverent and irrational aspects of the new objects, in the description of a hypothetical newspaper of 2050 Anna Maconi* has been able to combine emotions between generations in relationships with objects.

The Emersivi workshop was therefore a place for experimentation, which returned the vision of designers, copywriters, illustrators and graphic designers who enter the professional world. The new generations of designers and storytellers have been accompanied and involved in a platform in which training becomes the premise for business culture. And we're just at the beginning.

*Anna Maconi, Elio, the balloon that flew under the table

"Fibio is 6 years old. His family lives in a playful and amused balance between past and future. The voice assistant is called Flea, like in a children's game. In dad's office room, paperwork piles up on the chair where he takes funny but comfortable positions. When he comes home, Mamma Giuliana greets the valet stand, which he continually drags from one room to another. Everything is quiet, until Fibio receives the Elio balloon as a gift. That, unlike his ancestors, he cannot fly because a law has established that helium must be saved to heal the sick. But Elio will be able to fly in a special way thanks to Fibio's tenacity, who together with his grandmother will leverage the soul of the objects that populate his house".
