For over half a century, Besenzoni has carried the flag of Made in Italy throughout the world in the nautical field, and beyond

Climbing aboard a boat – whether it is the first or the umpteenth time – the charm of the context and of the experience immediately leads the gaze to dive into the blue of the panorama, and to appreciate the almost surreal moment.

Little attention is reserved, at least in the first instance, to more practical details: an aspect that has always interested Giorgio Besenzoni, at the helm of one of the most interesting Italian companies at an international level for the creation of components for yachts.

Besenzoni: history

Born in 1967 in Sarnico, on the gentle shores of Lake Iseo, Besenzoni, which bears the name of the homonymous founder, Giovanni Besenzoni, is an example of productive and entrepreneurial evolution that has made courage and the desire to innovate the key to success.

Once they were the only, but revolutionary, navigation gangways, today they are also made-to-measure and upon request solutions. In over 55 years of history, Besenzoni has come to have 7 production plants distributed over 20,000 square meters of covered surface in Paratico (BS).

A 'career' which saw the small artisan reality of 1967 grow, evolve and innovate without limits, because this is the nature of today's solid industrial reality, which has always looked ahead without abandoning fidelity to a very high quality. In a balanced compromise between aesthetic care and extreme attention to function and practicality.

Innovation as a vocation

The philosophy of Giovanni Besenzoni, today at the helm of the company, takes up that of his father Giovanni Besenzoni, and is that of experimenting and proposing the new. Creating innovation and improving the on-board experience at the same time.

This was the case starting from the first production experience, in 1967, when the then revolutionary stern platform with ladder was proposed, a real technological novelty for the time; but also in 1985, with the sophisticated hydraulic gangway with remote control.

Over the years, the different innovations have led Besenzoni to win acknowledgments and prizes of an international nature: in 1993, the "Retractable side door" became an "Innovative Product 1992-1993" recognized by the National Museum of Science and Technique Leonardo Da Vinci of Milan and in 2002 - The super-compact Magic davit wins the Dame Award - Mets of Amsterdam and many others received over time until the last one in 2022 with the Design Innovation Award in the "Nautical Equipment and Components" category delivered in Genoa for the new multifunctional ladder with electric movement.

The vocation for the creation of new solutions has led Besenzoni to go beyond navigation accessories.

In addition to the vast range of objects for sailing and motor boats, such as gangways, helm seats, table bases, davits, platform handling systems and tender launching, ladders, windlass, doors and windows, sunroofs, Besenzoni currently offers numerous implementation services are also available for those who sail: in 2018 Unica - Unique Yachts Accessories was born, whose strength lies in the proven ability to develop completely customized and made-to-measure solutions, dedicated to Super yachts ; in 2021 it is the turn of Be Electric, a division created for the development and production of items with a reduced environmental impact thanks to the exclusive electric operation.

There are also Be Design, dedicated to everything related to naval interior design and more, and the Customer Service Division with which Besenzoni provides shipowners with a precious point of reference in every part of the world for any technical requirement regarding the Besenzoni production installed on board.

Beyond the sea

Besenzoni's dedication and experience in improving the navigation experience is getting ever closer to designing for contemporary living solutions.

The company philosophy is reflected in the creation of a design that is visually surprising but also extremely practical and of the highest quality: an approach that, together with the young talent Francesco Forcellini, Besenzoni brought to the stage of the FuoriSalone 2023, in the context of the exhibition-event of INTERNI Design Re-Evolution, with the Flow installation.

The protagonist of the installation was Oceano, the ladder/platform for yachts equipped with an innovative system that allows it to be used as a swim ladder or for landing/boarding, as an extension of the sunbathing platform or as a tender lift.

At the FuoriSalone 2023 Oceano was at the center of a convex mirrored surface, with the result of making the staircase appear suspended in the center of a virtual space, in which the observer could imagine infinite floating settings and feel completely immersed in them.

To describe the concept of the installation, Giorgio Besenzoni said: “When you board a boat, there is a moment in which you are suspended between the elements: land, sea and sky they are not just a side dish but seem to merge to become a whole, a sort of dreamlike scenario in which you can choose to be the protagonist or become a part of the whole ourselves”.
