The road towards Zero Co2 emissions is open: here is the first vessel equipped with hydrogen propulsion, the highest example of sustainability existing today, for the entire pleasure boating sector

Anyone who passed through Barcelona, Spain, in August and had the privilege of attending the regattas of the 37th edition of the America's Cup will certainly have noticed two strange boats "flying" over the waves quickly and silently. The BGH-HSV (Hydrogen Support Vessel) are among the first boats with hydrogen propulsion built to comply with the strict requirements of the event's Protocol for an edition of the historic regatta as sustainable as possible.

They wear the livery of two important teams: the American one, American Magic (exclusive Yacht Club in the world, which made the history of the America's Cup, winning the first edition in 1851 and holding the record for 132 years) and that of the prestigious French Orient Express Racing Team. They seem to come from the future but belong to the present.

And this present is written by Bluegame, a brand of the Sanlorenzo group, born in 2004 from Luca Santella's dedication and ambition to create functional and efficient boats, unique on the market.

For Bluegame a memorable result, achieved after accepting a complex challenge from a design and technical point of view, considering that on a vessel of only 10 meters which must reach a speed of 50 knots and an autonomy of 180 miles, for the first time the regulation provides for the exclusive use of hydrogen propulsion combined with foils (special wings placed under the hull which, by reducing the surface in contact with the water, lift the hull allowing exceptional performance).

The BGH-HSV are boats built using the maximum possible know-how in the areas of structures and composite, in the design of the foils and in the management of the software that controls the trim. An absolute novelty in pleasure boating both in terms of design and applied technology which sees hydrogen as an exclusive propulsion system.

A first time for Bluegame, which joins the result achieved by the parent company Sanlorenzo (which signed an agreement with Siemens Energy) which also launched the first Superyacht of >50 metres with electricity generation via hydrogen and Fuel Cell.

A double extraordinary achievement that confirms Sanlorenzo's indisputable leadership in technological and sustainable innovation. BGH represents the maximum expression of sustainability possible today and its project is part of the global sustainability strategy "Road to 2030" of the Sanlorenzo group, a pioneer in the sector on the path towards carbon neutrality.

Bluegame has also recently announced a partnership with NatPower H: it is the first developer in Italy and among the first in the world of hydrogen refueling infrastructures for naval use. Bluegame and NatPower H are thus aligned towards a long-term strategy to support the energy transition in the nautical sector, with the aim of encouraging the use of hydrogen in recreational boating. A road that opens towards a new generation of boats with zero CO2 emissions.
