Carl Hansen & Søn celebrates Hans J. Wegner's 108th anniversary with a special edition of the Wishbone chair. The limited pieces will only be available for purchase on April 4, 2022

108 years after his birth, which is celebrated on April 2nd, the Danish designer Hans J. Wegner is still one of the most loved by professionals and enthusiasts in the sector.

On the occasion of what would have been his 108th birthday, Carl Hansen and Søn has chosen to revisit in an (ultra) contemporary way his most iconic project: the Wishbone chair.

Evergreen capable of adapting to any environment, the Wishbone chair was in fact designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950 and, to this day, has enjoyed uninterrupted attention.

On sale (only) April 4, 2022

The limited edition (over time, it is on sale only on April 4th) of the Wishbone chair that Carl Hansen and Søn proposes keeps faith with the original but is unprecedented in the finishes: a combination of certified teak and leather tanned with ecological olive leaf extract.

Natural materials

The warm golden tones of oiled teak meet the authenticity of aniline leather, which, precisely because of its ability to preserve the original naturalness, absorbs the color of the olive leaves in a different way. Each individual Wishbone chair will have in fact a distinctive aesthetic expression, underlining the uniqueness of the pieces.

Reinterpreting an icon

Knud Erik Hansen, CEO of Carl Hansen & amp; Son, explained the choice of using new materials to reinterpret a timeless: "Wegner himself has experimented all his life with variations on the same theme and has worked constantly to refine and develop its projects".

And he continues: "In the 1950s and 1960s, Wegner often worked with teak and it is therefore natural to continue and deepen this work in a contemporary context, where both wood and leather are ecologically certified to reduce the 'environmental impact".

Each Wishbone chair purchased on April 4, 2022 will feature a small brass plate engraved with Hans J. Wegner's signature and date of birth, discreetly positioned within the chair frame and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
