A work that represents a message of hope: by focusing on humanity’s ability to innovate, it is still possible to heal the damage done to the environment. This is what UNcracked seeks to communicate with the installation (6.5 meters long, 3.5 wide and 4 high) by Stroop Design with Jeffrey Beers International, created in collaboration with Corepla – National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging and Guzzini. It is a parallelepiped completely in 100% recyclable polycarbonate, which has a crack inside it filled with compacted bottles, symbolizing how plastic can be transformed from waste into resource. The inner space is clustered with a series of columns made from the same recycled plastic as the objects they support: elements from the Circle collection by Guzzini, used here as vases to hold air plants (Tillandsia - Michieli Floricoltura). The visitor experience is made even more immersive by the videos with marine images on the internal walls. “The design community has always been committed to social, political and environmental issues,” said Vince Stroop, “but in recent years we have disconnected from the Earth. This work is intended to serve as a warning to reconnect with the environment in the way we’re best able to: through art!”
