On the occasion of FuoriSalone 2022, Lorenz proposes five new versions of the historic table clock that earned Richard Sapper the Compasso d'Oro in 1960

It is a historic project that Lorenz presents, in 5 new versions, on the occasion of FuoriSalone 2022 in Milan: Lorenz Static in fact, designed by Richard Sapper in 1959, was the first project that the great designer made as an independent professional.

Ten Golden Compasses plus one for Lifetime Achievement in 2014 - the first for Static - Richard Sapper, German by birth but Italian by adoption, was one of the most multifaceted, productive and successful designers of the history of design.

The Static clock was commissioned by the founder of Lorenz, Tullio Bolletta, to Richard Sapper to recover war mechanisms bought second-hand and previously used for torpedoes.

Working with these elements, Sapper creates a shape that seems to have a vitality of its own. The support surface is in fact located in a point where the object would normally not be able to stand. The dial and the glass of the clock are located at the end, giving the idea of meeting those who want to know the time.

In short, the one proposed by Sapper was a new interpretation of watchmaking, free from the obsession with luxury - which prevailed at the time - in favor of an essential aesthetics, focused on on subtraction, simplicity and rigor.

The jury that will award him the Compasso d'Oro, in 1960, will call it a "cordial object" and will talk about the dial, of "lettering culture".

In 2017 Lorenz decides to return to produce Static in Italy, with the exception of the mechanism, made in Germany. The product is the result of an industrial and artisanal process that involves several companies in the Milan area. The production of the case, the dial, the hands and the case are an example of Italian mechanical mastery combined with craftsmanship.

Currently there are 12 versions of Static: 3 in satin steel (silver, gold, and gunmetal), 3 colored lacquered (white, black and red ) which form the original core of Static production. They were joined by 3 versions in shiny metal (silver, gold, gunmetal), one in rosé-colored satin metal, and two new lacquered colors, green and amaranth.

On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2022 Lorenz will present 5 new versions of Static: the first three make up the Static "Aero" family, made in Avional, a light and very strong aluminum alloy used in the aeronautical industry. The Avional carter is then anodized to give it a lively look in the 3 new colors of blue, purple and orange.

This is followed by the "Pure Bronze" version made of solid bronze, where each piece is unique due to the particular oxidation of the bronze in contact with the air and the "Domm" made of a special quality of marble reminiscent of the Milan Cathedral, with a unique packaging that reaffirms the Milanese origins of Static.

Lorenz Static, in its new forms, will be exhibited in Milan at Ronchi Gioielli and at Pisa Orologeria.
