An unprecedented collection of porcelain plates designed originally by Gio Ponti for the famous Venezuelan villa of Anala and Armando Planchart, reissued by Saint Laurent Rive Droite

On the occasion of the FuoriSalone 2024, at the Cloisters of San Simpliciano, Saint Laurent Rive Droite presents Gio Ponti - Villa Planchart: an exhibition of limited-edition porcelain plates in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and the Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart.

The exhibition (book tickets in advance here) is curated by Anthony Vaccarello and brings to life a selection of tableware designed by the Italian architect as an integral part of the Caracas villa commissioned by the couple in 1953.

Graceful in decoration and bearers of a refined sensitivity, the plates were once ingrained in the multifaceted and romantic soul of Villa Planchart. Featuring breathtaking views and hints of nature everywhere, it was a house full of ingenious inventions, brilliant colors, and works of art.

Everything designed by Ponti for Villa Planchart was conceived not only as a complement, but also as a central element that contributed to the modern and avant-garde personality of the villa, which sits atop the highest hill in Caracas.

In finalizing the decoration of the home - which Ponti himself defined as "light and graceful like a butterfly resting on a hill" - the architect commissioned exceptional Italian artisans with traditional expertise, such as Ginori 1735, a company for which he had previously worked as artistic director.

It was thus that the porcelain tableware with a whimsical soul was born, giving a voice to Ponti's artistic inclination, enriched with symbols and motifs taken from every corner of the villa: the Sun, the Crescent Moon, the Polar Star and, above all, graphic interpretations of the letter "A" - a tribute to Anala and Armando.

The plates on display at the Cloisters of San Simpliciano during the FuoriSalone 2024 are made in partnership with Ginori 1735, who reproduced 12 original plates from the collection.

During Milan Design Week the limited-edition collection will be available for purchase by appointment at the Saint Laurent Milanese flagship on Via Montenapoleone, as well as on, at Saint Laurent Rive Droite in Los Angeles, and Saint Laurent Babylone in Paris.
