From the talk on 17 April with Pritzker prize winner Francis Kéré to the rooms of thought by director David Lynch, the events and cultural initiatives not to be missed at the fair

With 174,457 square meters of exhibition space andover 1,950 exhibitors from 35 countries, it returns from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 April on Salone del mobile di Milano, the most important event in the world for the design sector, which invites the public of architects, interior designers, retailers, students or simple enthusiasts to discover the new proposals in the Rho exhibition spaces.

Now in its 62nd edition, the event is becoming more and more inclusive and open to young people, with a ticket reduced to 15 euros for students, and "increasingly sustainable", states the president Maria Porro, "thanks to the sharing of new green guidelines for exhibitions, a further step forward in the context of the sustainability policy of the event, certified ISO20121.

But also a Salon that is increasingly open to experimentation. From neuroscience, applied to the redesign of layouts and visit routes to the 2024 cultural programme, capable of triggering synesthesia and short circuits open to all".

A "people" first event, which puts the visitor at the center thanks to listening work, with 1200 interviews conducted in 2023, and the The use of neuroscience to measure the level of satisfaction of the public and exhibitors, improve and amplify the visiting experience.

Scientific data in hand, after having renewed Euroluce last year, Lombardini22 reimagines the biennial Eurocucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition with a new urban planning of the pavilions, with exhibitors grouped by affinity of content and visitor target, an exhibition network designed to save energy (physical and mental), to guarantee greater clarity of routes and balanced visibility and recognisability for all companies.

The breaks are important in the new layout, so as not to tire the visitor, with widespread moments of cultural study.

Salone del Mobile 2024: the cultural program spread across the pavilions

The Salone del Mobile has developed a cultural program spread across various pavilions to involve the visitor along the entire visit itinerary.

neuroscientific experiments have, in fact, demonstrated that shifting the public's attention from a succession of stands to something different increases the ability to remember by 40 percent.

The main cultural events of the 2024 Salone del Mobile are:

- Interiors by David Lynch. A thinking room, in pavilions 5 and 7, curated by Antonio Monda: two mirror-image rooms of thought and intimate, designed by the famous director of the unconscious, full of blue, gold, light and silence, imagined as symbolic doors to pass through to immerse yourself in the event.

- All you have ever wanted to know about food design in six performances: the rich program of performative acts strong> in the heart of Eurocucina and FTK (Technology for the kitchen), in pavilions 2 and 4. Exhibitions, talks and tasting experiences follow one another day after day on a large stage that hosts independent food magazines, artists, designers and chefs from all over the world.

On stage will be: Family Style magazine (United States) with Sophia Roe and Studio Drift; the Linseed Journal (Great Britain) with Francesca Sarti/Arabeschi di latte; The preserve journal (Austria) with Grace Gloria Denis; Magazine F (South Korea) with Bobby Cortez; Farta (Portugal) with Projecto Matéria; and L'Integrale (Italy) with Tommaso Melilli and Luca Trevisani.

At its 24th edition, Eurocucina, the biennial Salone del Mobile dedicated to kitchens and kitchen appliances, returns with 105 exhibitors, of which 30 abroad, on 23,807 square meters of exhibition space.

- Under the surface of Salotto.NYC Accurat, Design Group Italia and Emiliano Ponzi, in heart of the International Bathroom Exhibition in pavilion 10. An engaging and futuristic installation that turns the spotlight on the importance of global water resources and their conservation, investigates and reflects on the water footprint of the bathroom furnishings supply chain, and encourages strategies for 'responsible and efficient use of water. The International Bathroom Show this year hosts 185 exhibitors on 17,941 square meters of exhibition space.

-Drafting futures. Conversations about next perspectives: in the pavilion 14, on the stage of the regenerated Arena of the same name (reusing the seats of the last edition) from Formafantasma, the program of meetings curated by Annalisa Rosso, in which the protagonists of contemporary architecture and languages alternate, such as the Pritzker prize winner Francis Kéré, John Pawson, Deyan Sudjic, Jeanne Gang, Johanna Agerman Ross and Hans Ulrich Obrist. In the afternoon, round tables dedicated to the relationship between boating and design, with the Genoa Boat Show, the use of artificial intelligence and news from the hospitality sector.

- the Corraini Mobile Bookshop: after last year's success, next to the Arena Drafting futures, the Corraini Edizioni bookshop returns , where it is possible to purchase volumes chosen from a wide selection of international publications from over 110 publishers dedicated to the world of design, art and illustration, with a focus this year also on the theme of food and of food design. Also on sale are children's books, to introduce the little ones to the project in a fun and original way, posters, limited edition graphics, ceramics, small art objects and unique pieces, curiosities and rarities.

In addition to the latest furniture innovations, which we will spot and select for you in the next few days, not to be missed at the Salone del Mobile 2024:

-The SaloneSatellite, in pavilions 5 and 7, the showcase for talents under 35, created in 1998 and strongly supported by Marva Griffin, which celebrates its 25th edition this year and brings together, around the theme Connecting design since 1998, 600 young participants from 32 countries strong> and 22 design schools from 13 countries. In addition to the SaloneSatellite Award for the best talent, assigned as per tradition by the jury led by Paola Antonelli on Wednesday 17 April at 3pm (in the SaloneSatellite arena in pavilion 7), not to be missed are two round tables again in pavilion 7: on April 18th at 3pm the meeting with some creatives launched by Marva Griffin and today stars of design, namelyRodolfo Agrella, Pedro Franco, Sebastian Herkner, Patrick Jouin, Francesca Lanzavecchia, Zhang Lei / Pinwu, Francesco Librizzi, Daniel Rybakken and Nao Tamura.

The second round table, Friday 19 April, 3pm, is a conversation between Nasir Kassamali, co-founder of Luminaire, and Tony Chambers on best practices for presenting, communicating and selling design. While on Friday 19th at 4.30 pm the table tennis match in which the designers who participated in last year's SaloneSatellite challenge this year's.

The adrenaline-filled and fresh atmosphere of the SaloneSatellite goes beyond the confines of the fair and infects Milan, with the celebratory exhibition at the TriennaleUniverso Satellite. 25 years of SaloneSatellite” from 16 to 28 April, (free admission), curated by Beppe Finessi with the supervision of Marva Griffin, installation by Ricardo Bello Dias - who took care of all the installations of the SaloneSatellite from the now legendary 1998 edition - with Hariadna Pinate and graphic design by studio òbelo.

Always in the city:

- The Design Kiosk, the new temporary newsstand of the Salone del Mobile in Piazza della Scala, open until 21 April from 10am to 7pm, managed by Corraini Edizioni , co-created with Interbrand on a project by DWA-Design Studio. A kiosk - easily dismantled and made of sustainable materials - in which Piero Lissoni, Stefano Boeri, Parasite2.0, Cino Zucchi and Luca Nichetto, acting as newsagent for a day, recommend a selection of publications and editorial projects dear to them, including news, books used collectibles, design and lifestyle magazines and volumes from the Salone del Mobile.
